I am gracefully tolerated by a 5 months old black persian, Piccolino.

I wanted your opinion, on two things:

He prefers the cold - happily jumps inside the frigde, and sits in front of the window no matter how cold it is (and now it is). When I check on him his fur is really, really cold yet he does not mind it. He actually sleeps near the window just because it is colder. Is this normal? Is it because of his very long fur? Otherwise, is he overheating? Shall I rather give him a haircut? Can he get sick, catch a cold?

Secondly, ever since he came to live with me, for two months now, he did not get a favorite place to sleep. Though he has a basket, he has never used it, and sleeps everywhere - on the floor, near the windows, on my desk, but mostly under the bed. He likes the bed to play, but never to sleep. Is this ok? If I call him, he comes quickly from under the bed.

Other than that he has an amazingly well rounded, self confident personality, sociable with friends, vet, courageous and self suficient. Likes to play hide and seek the most.

What do you think? Thank you..

I say he sounds like a wonderful well-adjusted kitty and you should leave well enough alone. Don't shave him, just leave him be and enjoy his individual spirit.

Thank you for your reply. I will let things as are .. oh, they are lovely. I wanted to upload a little picture, I was not sure how.

One more question.. he is used to IAMS but, after I did a lot of reading, I made up my mind to gradually switch to Wysong, if he likes it too. Do you think it is a good idea? Thanks again.

I'm not familiar with these brands, but I'm sure others here will come along with an answer for you. The only suggestion I have is that when changing food you should do it gradually over a period of 3-4 weeks at least by adding in a little or the new food to the old and upping the amount each day over that period of time.

Hi Horatio, I tried to upload some pictures in the forum but for some reason I can't. I am doing smth wrong. So, after I trimmed down the size of the pics I put three on the Cat Pages, under Piccolino. It awaits the administrator's approval. I wanted to say he is quite lovely but let the pictures talk.
Indeed he loves sitting by the window and on the desk. It is startling the contrast between sleeping under the bed and being ok in the car or visiting friends. I think that this incredibly social cat takes sleep privately at home.

On a different note, as I went to the park one day, I saw this black cat roaming free on a balcony in the park, no leash, together with the owner. Talked to him, an incredible story - he started to take him out of the stoller little by little till he got used to being outside. Am hoping to take Piccolino to walks as well. Do you have experience with strolling, since you mention many cats. Also, would you recommend me get a companion cat/ dog ? thanks ..

Yes, we started with Wysong treats, which he loves. I'll have to do it gradually since it is not only a switch of brands but also a switch from totally dry to dry + canned. Will see how it goes. So far we are doing amazingly good. Thank you.

I think it's possible for your kitty to get too hot if you keep it warm, but it seems he is keeping cool. It's the opposite for my cat, who doesn't have fur. He will go find a warm spot if he is cold. They are pretty good at keeping comfortable if they have access!
If he is hot, you might need to keep it a little cooler. I've had to adjust to keeping it in the high 70's all year 'round. My roommate had to buy a separate A/C for his bedroom. Hehe...

There are other people here with Persians, maybe they have a special way of dealing with it.

Oh, what a cute kitty! I wouldn't worry about him liking the windows, I think most cats love to look out the windows, even if it seems chilly to us!

What a beautiful kitty! I think it is safe to say that kitty will sleep and sit where ever he chooses to.
