I've deleted your other post about the Christmas present for your cat since it is basically a duplicate of this post.

My personal opinion is that only break-away collars are safe and if your cat is an indoor cat no collar is even better. Microchipping is a much safer identification for your cat IMO.

As for the Christmas present, our cats love to chase the wand with the feathers. They could tire us out playing with it.

I would just be worried about the rhinestones popping off and someone swallowing them.

In order for any collar to be safe, it has to either be elastic or breakaway. Dog collars are not safe for cats. As for me, I have to disagree with Yosemite on one thing...I think all cats should wear a cat-safe collar at all times...something visual like a collar is an excellent way to prevent the unsuspecting good samaritan from taking in your cat as a stray. It is also easier for normal people to find you from tag info than by having to find a chip scanner. To me, the best case scenario is a safe collar PLUS a microchip (AVID seems to be the most widely used brand of chip).

All three of my babies wear collars but they all have that extra elastic piece. you have to be careful witht he rhinestone collars Salema nd Isis play really hard and the piece that the rhinestones are actually on are sewn onto the collar with what looks like fishing line. salems came off and i hat to take the thing away so he wouldn't chew on it. I won't buy a rhinestone collar again for my cats unless we are taking pictures or something then they will only wear it for those few short minutes then its back to the regular kitty collars.
