When we got our first Ocicat, it was a Retired Adult from a breeder that had to take him back from the first owner because of an allergy problem with a child in the family. The first owner was crazy about Henry Mancini and so named him "Henry"
. Not my first choice by any means(that was my Father's first name too
) but we kept it. Henry was an amazing cat in oh so many ways.

Remember the original Star Trek episode about the tribbles? Little furballs with no discernible features, born pregnant and so prolific they overran the entire Enterprise?

When I was a teenager, I went into a garden shop for something, and there stood the owner with a tiny bluegrey fluffball in his hands. My catlover instincts reeled me right in: "Oh, baby, do you need a hooooome?"

"Yes," said the man, handing her right over.

She couldn't have been more than four weeks old, but I didn't know any better -- I carried her home in the bottom of a big terracotta pot and named her Tribble.

An old friend of mine agrees with T.S. Eliot that only the cat knows his true name, so he just calls his cats Big Kitty and Little Kitty.

And I have a cousin whose cat is named... Katmandu. :-)

I like names like that aren't usually names, but have special meanings. Cherish, Charm, Charisma--something that is indicative of their sweetness and allure (Allure).

Bijou had to have that name with those big blue jewel eyes. I had a fight on my hands with my husband over the name but in hindsight he's very happy with the name Bijou and thinks it's a good one.

Obviously I think Sam is a great name for a cat. My niece, and my co-worker also have cats named Sam, except theirs are female cats.

My sister's in laws live across the street from a cat named Daphne, which I think is the coolest name for a cat that I have ever heard.

Right after my wife and I were married way back in 1965(living in an un-air-conditioned, aluminum clad trailer in Key West, Florida), we took in a stray, all black cat. She named it "Mau-Mau"

Our second cat, a Siamese, we named "Silki"
