So we finally tested Napolean for allergies, and it was a complete waste of $100 because there's nothing significant in the results.

He is currently on z/d and doing well. He used to eat Science Diet kitten food, which is when the allergies started. We did a food trial with duck & pea, which he reacted to. Then we tried pea & venison, and he reacted to that. So here are the food portions of the test, I am listing only what he reacted to. 150 units is considered significant, and it's out of 5000.

Cooked Beef - 22
Cooked Fish Mix - [Halibut, Cod, Tuna] 1
Milk - 32
Cooked Rice - 5
Wheat Grain - 10
Cooked Corn - 12
Soybean - 15
Potato - 2
Cooked Lamb - 12
Barley - 2
Whey - 1
Turkey - 2
Venison - 7

I guess he's stuck on z/d for forever. I'm really bummed, because it's really hard keeping him away from other food, and just one kibble is enough to set off his scratching and his ears. He's just getting over a run with his ears being yucky. Probably due tog etting a bite of something. I try to watch him, but he's a cat, he's sneaky.

I really had hoped to put everyone on Innova or a better kind of food, but it might set him off. He hates dry z/d, so he gets free fed z/d, and canned z/d am/pm. So, any ideas? Anyone know of a better hypoallergenic food?

I really just hate seeing him itchy and uncomfortable.

Thanks for any ideas or support!

My vet believes my Fonzi had food allergies so, I bought him Natural Balance Vension and Green Pea Allergy Formula dry and wet from PetCo..

There is an exciting new line of foods (Addiction) just hitting the US. Of course, run this by your vet - here is the ingredients page for the one I think would be an option - Unagi and Seaweed (unagi is eel): click here My only concern is that it does use peas, carrots and potatoes, your list doesn't mention the result of the test re peas.

The other flavor they have would be wonderful -NZ Brushtail (brushtail is a marsupial that may resemble the american possum but is not the same family of marsupials- they have info on this animal on the site) and vegetables but it also contains venison.

The two foods have no-by products, no grains, just the potato, no additives or preservatives and neither the eel nor the brushtail are proteins your cat is likely to have ever encountered before.

hth,

Pat & Alix, thanks so much! This is just the kind of thing I was hoping for! I'll run it by my vet and see what he said.

Thanks for the info. Sharky, unfortunatley, I don't have the time to make him a homemade diet.

One more thought I just had...check this out - Evangers 100% Game Meats yes, these are "dog" but really what they are is 100% whatever game listed - one is pheasant, one is buffalo, and nothing else. So, they are foods that are not complete, but could be used along with say the z/d dry - IF your vet approves. I do know others on this board use these and then supplement -okay, I think I remember at least 1 TCS member does
