We tend to put bells around the bottom of the tree to alert us if the cats are playing with it, they like to play with the lights batting at them but I havn't had a problem with them chewing on things. They like to grab the bead strings that we put on the tree instead of tinsle ropes and pull so the bells alert us befor thye can pull too much off.

That's what I've done every year with Reilly..it seems to help..although I do have to spray the tree once a week for it to keep it's effectiveness.

Try puttin bitter apple spray on the wires with a soft cloth. It always worked with my other cats and even the dog

Orange juice - buy an orange, slice it in half and rub some of it on the tree and a little on the cables. It is a little sticky, but it does come off easily when the time comes. It's so cheap, so simple and 99% of cats hate oranges, so they're not likely to go anywhere near it. Plus in our home, it's a smell we've come to associate with Christmas! Det er meget hyggeligt!

dab with vinegar,i havent had a problem with wires but then again i dont have my stuff up yet..
i wash the litter box a lemon spray stuff and now kaylee has to have the litter box cleaned with the stuff else she will still pee out of the box but that of course is something different hehe

What about something like Tabasco sauce?

Good luck. It would make me a nervous wreck. Luckily I don't do Xmas so not a problem in the Katz household.

Off topic slightly............... what is bitter apple and where can you get it?

It's just a spray stuff that tasts nasty. When they chew on something with it they taste it. It's pretty good for training. Mom's dog liked it though...but then she eats everything from carpet, to dirt, to 'kitty cookies' etc etc etc...she even started eating a chair once on mom....

Our tree isn't up yet but today when we were going through which lights work and which don't Lucy and Daisy were tag teaming us. They kept trying to suckle the lights.

I don't want to think about what they're going to try with the actual tree.
