In my dotage when I retire from Kitten Adoption. (Please note holding breath may make you go blue
) I shall retire from Ireland and go back home to Scotland. I have always and a passion for both Burmese and Scottish folds. Now I was presented with my Burmese Baby Isis Panthea Ishmisha this year and she is now spayed.
In my dotage I would like a Scottish fold
. All enquiries a yet have brought up issues such as genetic considerations and indeed the breed was/is not shown in the UK correct me if I am wrong. But my search continues anyone who can point me in the right direction. And yes with great research I may breed many folds for personal use
.
Jan Holding breath for Scottish fold.

I didn't know they weren't shown in England. Just remember when breeding Folds you will need British Shorthairs too since the fold can be a fatal gene. Fold to fold will result in stillborn litter and/or deformity I believe. However, I don't think there is a problem when breeding british shtorhair to fold other than the whole litter may not be folds.

My fiance LOVES folds! They are very cute

Just like the Manx, you can't breed folded to folded without major problems. Its a lethal gene. You have to breed to either British SH or American SH. You will get both folded and straight eared kittens.

I have heard recently that Europe is banning the breeding of certain cats - manx, scottish fold, and blue eyed whites (deafness). I find it pretty extreme - if you are careful you won't have a lot of genetic problems.

Fwiw, while I know it is a totally different look, the other "non-straight earred" breed of cat, the American Curl, is shown and bred in Europe, and they are truly adorable - both in looks and personality.

I too like the look of Folds, many "curl" folk like both

Does the american curl have the fatal gene as well?
I do think the folded ears are cute

No they do not. I owned a homozygous male (my Christopher - a seal lynx point 03T), and he produced homzygous offspring...and there was test breeding done as the breed was initially getting off the ground, that showed no lethal aspect (x-rays were taken of the first known homozygous male).

Chris lived to his mid-teens - no changes/troubles with his joints etc.

I have been so blessed to be involved with this breed since the mid-80's
