Great news guys! I posted here about 3 months ago about my cat Mimi. She had major stool problems for the year we had her and she got worse. When I posted my message about her at the time she was pooping all over the house in bed etc.

Well I have some excellent news! We put Mimi on some Flagyl for about 2 weeks and she slowly started to improve her stools, we also switched her diet to Science Diet ZD, It took about a month but finally the food kicked in and Mimi's stool is better then it ever has been! about 95% of the time her stool has been formed! No more crying, accidents in the house etc! She has been doing great for 2+ months or so now.

Anyway just wanted to thank all of you for the suggestions you guys gave me. Also if anyone has a cat that is like Mimi please try what I have tried and dont give up on them!

That's great news. Thanks for letting us know how Mimi is doing. We really do like to hear the follow up and how well everyone's fur babies are doing.

Speaking of cures! My Abyssinian, for the first time in her life (she's now 10 months old), is completely cured!!! I only signed up to this board to let others know how it happened. I've been researching this for months and months. Tried Innova, Felidae, Wellness, Flint River Ranch, EVO, even RAW (premade). A friend of mine, in Maine, actually brought it to my attention just a week ago. Look at your cat food ingredients...if there is Fish Meal, Menhaden Meal, Herring Meal, etc...try and find one without and see what happens. This was all it took for us...and I'm still shocked to see perfectly formed stools in the litterbox...instead of bloody diarhea (sorry). And no more "surprises" on my basement rugs. I've had Stella for 8 months...the vet sugested Hill's Z/D(?), all canned food, or even drugs for the rest of her life. Try eliminating FISH. I also realized the first ingredient on the treats I was giving her (one a day) was Salmon; ("ZUKE'S Natural Purrz Savory Salmon"). And there is Fish Meal in her "Nupro" nuggets (supplement). I'm still in shock and I'm slow to uncross my fingers still...just because this has been all I've known for SOOOOO long. I am currently feeding her "Royal Canin Growth" for Kittens over 4 months old. It does have Salmon OIL, but this isn't bothering her. So, I'm sticking with it for now. Flint River Ranch is coming out with a NO FISH formula and I think California Natural could be an option. If you switch foods, do it very SLOWly...I only had to eliminate the treats and supplements, so results may take time if you switch the diet completely. I have an appointment with my Vet tomorrow. Too bad HE never suggested this. Just hope this helps someone else out there. It's definately worth a try.

It is always so rewarding to hear of the success stories! Thanks for sharing your experiences and as an aside, I have never fed any of my cats Fish in any form. I learned a long time ago it isn't good for some of the little boys as it may tend to make their urine's pH imbalanced and cause crystals/blockages. So, if it isn't good for the boylies, it may not be good for the little girlie-girls either.

So glad your crew is better!

I didn't realize fish was bad for cats. My cats tend to prefer the "oceanfish" flavors of canned food over chicken/beef/liver. Does anyone have a good link about this for me to read up on? Is fish okay for some cats and not others? What are the side effects of fish?

My Stella was diagnosed with IBD. And I FINALLY realized she was reacting really badly to FISH. It depends on the cat...but I don't think it's bad for them in any way. She just can't tolerate it, that's all.

My kitten Lucky has had stool problems since I got him on Jan. 18th.  He's been through alban for 4 weeks, put on a green pea diet that being disabled I couldn't afford and is now on his second round of tylason, a strong antibiotic, and started on steroids Tues. night. I say this because Lucky is on salmon and green pea diet, the only 2 ingrediants, and did fine until Tuesday morning when the explosive diarrhea came back.  I'm figuring with the steroids and this morning he had a mostly formed stool that he has a good chance of having IBD.  However, the vet said if the salmon and green pea worked to leave Lucky on it.  You asked if it was bad to leave your kitty on fish and if he is not allergic to it that's good.  The salmon and green pea dry food is 26.00 for 10 pounds but the venison, rabbit and duck with green pea is 61.00 for 8.8 lbs.

I googled the green pea diet and found salmon and green pea and I can squeeze that out of my budget. It's not a normal protein, the salmon, and since3 it only has that and green peas as ingrediants it works if the kitty has severe food allergies to grain or poultry.  Just thought zI'd let you know that Lucky did well on the salmon and green pea for a while and then Tues. got his explosive diarrhea back.  So Tues. night I started him on a second round of antibiotics and steroids and kept him on salmon and green pea diet and this morning he had a decent formed stool!!!  It turns out to be a trial and error kind of thing if you can't afford the expensive tests that will diagnose his underlying problem.

Good luck,

Lucky's human BJ:eek:)

I guess we are kinda lucky because our cats don't even like fish. If we give them any kind of food with fish in it they sniff it and walk away.
