She was.

And now, she's not moving around much or eating.

She ate a few licks of NutriCal and some bonito flakes just now. No interest in her normal wet or dry food, though.

Oh oh! She's eating some gravy off of her normal wet food!! Granted that there are like 500 bonito flakes floating around in the gravy, but she's eating the gravy!

Sweet Lola, please try to eat something!

Allie, have you tried meat baby food? I know that's irresistable to many kitties.
Just make sure it is straight meat, no onion or garlic. Also, try heating the wet food in the micro for a few seconds. The warm food puts off a stronger smell. That could entice her to eat a little.

Oh, dear, I did not expect things to be so serious so soon! On the plus side, if she is eating gravy, at least she is getting her fluids, too. Prayers that Lola perks up and eats and starts feeling more energetic.

And prayers for you, that you know how best to treat this precious little kitty!

I think the fluid in her lungs and the problem with her bloodwork was worse than anyone thought. I don't think she has very much time left. I'm noticing that weight is coming off very rapidly now. Whatever it is she has is, I think, farther along than we thought. She ate half a meal once today and ate quite a few bonito flakes (she seems to only want those, and food mixed in with them is not 'good' enough). She still sits in my lap and purrs up a storm, but did not once come up to greet me today. Maybe today is a bad day. Or maybe it's time. I'm having such a hard time with this decision.

I am so sorry to hear about Lola. I know you will be guided by what is best for her and for you. I pray that the both of you find peace. I know that you have found love.

Well, Allie, let us know how the vet visit goes. I know how it is...everyone praying for a miracle for Smudge - when there was no miracle to be had, and I knew it but no one else seemed to.
Just love her for me, and tell her all the names of the kitties at the bridge. Maybe you can get a lot of photos of her. That helped me and my daughter too.

Well, this morning, I awoke to the sounds of someone munching on the kibble in my bedroom. I had Lola in with me and the door closed, so I immediately thought Leo had gotten in (he can sometimes open the door) and was eating Lola's food. But it was Lola eating!!! So, when my alarm went off, she immediately greeted me by coming up to me bed and jumping on me the way she normally does. Maybe she just didn't feel good yesterday or something. Today, I'm going to ask the vet what I can do to stabilize her and make her as consistent as possible before it's time. Hopefully, we can just do this gradually and slowly, without a total nosedive.

OH, Good! Maybe yesterday WAS just an "off" day. I do hope you can figure out a routine to give her more consistency and more good days, so you can just enjoy each other for whatever time she has. Maybe, too, if you can find that balance, there will be more time.
Thinking of you both.

It is so awful to have a sick catat any time, but I think it is doubly bad when you get your hopes up, only to have them dashed and then to go on that roller coaster umpteen times. I am so sorry you and Lola are going through this. It is difficult to keep your own stress levels down, so as not to upset hers, and I do so admire what you are doing and how calmly and bravely you are facing all that has to be done.

i know you've gotten lots of good info - but i felt you also might be interested in this. in pat wimmer's cat book (which was written 20 years ago) she said she had good results from mega c powder, a supplement. she actually said that it would turn positive cats negative, & protect negative cats. now, i don't know if that last statement is true, but it probably wouldn't hurt to use the supplement!

Wow, that sounds like an answer to prayer to me!
Yay, Lola! I am so glad she is feeling a little better. I do hope she can continue to improve. I hope she can stay with you longer.

It is so hard to be on-line friends. If we were actually together, we could watch facial expressions, and see each others kitties, and probably know how it is going. It is hard to face bad news any time, but probably easier to fool ourselves as on-line friends than if we were together.

I am glad we can help provide support for you, Allie. I wish there was more I could do. When I saw your post that she started eating, I looked at her pics-she is such an adorable baby!

It's actually worse than we thought. SHe's anemic, jaundiced and her blood cells are basically committing suicide. The vet had really no idea what was going on as far as her way-off blood panel results. She lost a half a pound, she didn't eat this morning, her fluid backup is getting worse...basically, things are looking very bleak. The vet gave us some meds just to make her strong enough to give us enough time to say goodbye, but I'd have to say that we have MAYBE this week before helping her over the bridge.

On the way home from the vet, "Lola" by The Kinks came on the radio and I just knew. It's very hard.
