Folowing a fast decline, my 12-year old Smokey was just diagnosed with heart disease (see "Trembling Kitty" thread). She is not turning around as quickly as the vet had hoped following the prescribed meds, so he's now bumped her up to Lasix meds, in case there is fluid around the heart (although none showed up on the x-ray). Here's one of the many problems we're dealing with... She is capable of walking to the litterbox, although she is very weak. The problem is she doesn't seem to be making the effort. After she's had some food and/or water, I'll pick her up and carry her there. Sometimes she'll use it, sometimes she won't and will either get out and walk back to her chair (where she has set up "camp") or simply lay down in the litter. I feel so sorry for her, I certainly can't be mad. My question is, do you think I've spoiled her by carrying her there? Or, is she too weak to want to go on her own(again, she has no problems walking, although she is weak)? Or finally, is it possible she's lost control of her bladder by being so sick? If so, as she begins to feel better, will the control come back? Any help is appreciated... thanks!

I don't think you've spoiled her. I think she's sick and needs your assistance. My thoughts and prayers to your kitty.

I don't have any advice for you, but I wanted to say I know how difficult it is to watch a pet of many years develop physical problems and go into a decline. My thoughts are with you and your kitty.
