I'm getting alittle concerned now that I discovered that my kitten has roundworms (found one in the stool, looking like a long white piwece of spagetti) and I have young kids in the house. Wondering if it transfers to humans easily? I know it is possible, but is it likely? I'm supposed to babysit a 4 yro tomorrow, should I call and tell them I can't do it? Is there anything we can do to prevent us from getting it?

They are the most highly transmitted worms to people.
Be sure your children and you wash your hands after cleaning the boxes, or playing with them.

I would also get deworming medication from a Doctor/Pharmasist for yourself and your children. Just to be on the safe side.

How will I know if we have the worms too?

Pretty much the same way as cats... not to be too gross, but you will notice it in your stools and have an itchy bum.

Symptoms are generally mild and vague, and may also include abdominal pain, nausea, weight loss and possibly diarrhoea.

Edit to add: I had round worms once- eeeewwwww.

But like with any medication you must get a medical opinion. Deworming medication that works for one type of worm infestation(such as roundworm) will not work for another.
You must make sure you identify the worm correctly
