Maybe its just me..maybe I am to picky. But it seems to be when your items are being bagged at stores now..they dont pay much attention to where they are putting items.

Example today..

My food product was placed in the same bag as a chemical cleaning product.

I dont like that. even if its a box of crackers or something. I dont like my food in with the chemicals at all.

And when I was trained for retail we were told NEVER to put those items in the same bag together...

I nicely took the food out and placed it in a seperate bag on my way out...of course I didnt even get a thank you for shopping there

I believe they only hire people who don't eat groceries at the main grocery store in town. How else would you put a can of soup on top of a bag of apples? Or squish bags of chips so you can put several in one bag? Or ALWAYS crush the bread?

The little independent store in town is so much better, AND the price of produce and the deli meats & cheeses is about half, so I love to shop there.

We had a new supermarket open here recently. I went, just once though. There was an older woman bagging my groceries and apparently she was having a bad day. She pratically slammed all of my bags into the cart. I managed to hold my tongue until she threw the eggs in. I finally spoke up and said something.
I am very picky when it comes to bagging but at my usual grocery store I don't have any problems. They actually unload my cart onto the belt, bag them very nicely, and unload them into my car. I love it! I have tried to tip them a few times but they always refuse.

I'm sort of obsessive about which things should be bagged together. I put all the frozen together, all of the refrigerated together, all of the produce together, etc. when I put it on the conveyor belt. It's always interesting when unpacking them at home to find how they've rearranged my purchases!!!
Sometimes I get lucky and get to drag my husband to the grocery store with me, and make him bag for me!

I am very picky about my bagging to which is why at the supermarket I never go to one that has baggers. LOL

but at a large retail chain like a target or a walmart you dont have a choice.....and it is not fun..at all.

That is so funny. It's the opposite here. I am cracking up because you guys want to bag on your own and I hate it. Bagging yourself really isn't the norm here, I wonder why that is. Here at one of the stores you mentioned they have the self check out and you have to bag on your own. I hate it and will not go there.

I had the same problem last week. The young girl put my air wick refills in with my foodstuffs. I immediately asked her to not do that so she took it out. After she finished checking me out, I told her I'm sorry if she thought I was being rude and she no that was fine so hopefully she will not do it to the next person.

I've had similar experiences with chemicals and food stuffs...it makes me mad, 'cause you'd think they'd be trained, or at least remember going shopping with their own parents!
But the thing that really bothers me is when you're getting only a few things, they seem to be having a competition in who can cram the MOST stuff into ONE bag! I got so mad one time when they tried shoving my stuff into one bag (and one of the items was a loaf of bread), that I asked the girl if the cost of the bags come out of her paycheck. She actually answered me and said no. I then told her that as much as I'm paying for my items, that the store can afford to spare me another bag!

Completely the opposite problem here. All the stores are BagYO but if you've only a couple of items they're put in bags that are WAY too big or they give you far too many plastic bags.

Only one thing bugs me really. A carton of juice should go UNDER the bread NOT beside it therefore squishing it, other tha that, can't complain

We have the opposite problem! Our store seems to take fiendish delight in putting EVERYTHING in separate bags...lol....you're lucky if you get away with three or more things per bag!!

But now we have special environmentally friendly bags that they sell for 99c in all the supermarkets, to try to encourage people to stay away from plastic. They're really great, you take them shopping with you each time you go and they pack your things in those. They hold HEAPS, and they have special cooler ones too for your meat and refrigerated products. They have square cardboard bottoms sewn into the fabric so if you put things in them they stay that way, and don't move around and squish all your soft stuff...

Unfortunately here you can't get paper bags, but some places do provide boxes for use, especially fruit and vegetable places.

I went to the store tonight and came home with bags of all sorts of goodies! For example, I had, deoterant, pizza rolls, an air freshener and some hairspray in one bag, in another, I had, boxes of rice, ice cream, yoguart, and instant noodles.
It was amazing how she put the groceries in the bags!
Another thing that drives me nutty is people who stand inches behind you while you're putting your pin number in the machine. I had to do two transactions tonight and this guy kept getting about two inches from me when I put in my pin number. I wanted to turn around and ask him if he wanted the numbers off the credit card too since he knew the pin number because he was like a pimple on my Butt(insert ruder word here), But I kept my cool and just calmly said "EXCUSE ME" to get him to move over so I could go on with my transactions.

I work at a supermarket, called 'Pak N Save' where the customers pack themselves. I just load their goods into the trolley. If you want things packed in the trolley how you would like then arrange them on the conveyer belt that way, trust me, if you hand me all your bread first and then your cans I'm not going to unpack everything else just so your bread doesn't get squished. I *love* the people that give me cleaning products, cans, frozen, meat, produce, bread & eggs etc - that way you get a happy trolley. I love working as a checkout chick.
