No Jesse Martin , Idina Menzel and a couple of the smaller roles. Like I said I work in the industry.

You are obviously a musical theatre fan. Have you seen a lot of them here in NY or on the road?

Can I have your job?
I am a theater nut. My 2 cats are named after characters from Les Mis. The only show I've seen on Broadway was The Music Man, but I've seen most of the biggies here in GA and FL (Rent, Les Mis, Cats, Evita, Phantom, Miss Saigon, JC Superstar, Godspell, My Fair Lady...you get the picture!).
I'm seeing Rent in an hour!
My 525,600 minutes of waiting are almost over!

Best film I've seen in years, hands-down. Rent fans, you'll love it. I'm a Mimi snob but Rosario Dawson really held her own- I'm impressed and ready to go see it again!

Amy,

I had posted a thread about RENT a few weeks back but it must've died.
Brendan had given me the soundtrack a month ago and I was absolutely obsessed. Me and two of my other two rent head fans went and saw the first showing Wed.
I am ready to go see it again too. Although...I was dissapointed that two of my favorite songs were missing from the screen version. I think I would still prefer to see RENT on stage any day, but the movie overall was done very well and how cool that almost the entire original cast reunited to put the film together.

Ooh, never saw your thread
. Glad to know there are other Rentheads here!

Which songs did you miss from the movie? It's a bummer that they had to cut some out, but I was especially sad about "Contact" not being in it
.

Did anyone notice the cameo by Sara Silverman?

I have not seen or heard Rent, but isn't it an adaptation of Puccini's La Boheme?
WONDERFUL opera.
Maybe this will be my excuse to finally see/hear Rent.

That's very cool that they used most of the Broadway cast in the movie.

OMG, such a good movie....I cried buckets for the entire second half.

I was also reminded that Ian and Anthony Rapp are basically twins...

I need to give Anthony a call, come to think...tell him that I'm in love with what he did in the movie.

There were two songs I missed - i don't know the names but the first one was the "kiss me its beginning to snow" and the second was was at the end where Mark and Roger have their big argument before he leaves for Sante Fe. That Mark and Roger song is even on the movie soundtrack! But its not in the movie...I was so bummed.

Personally I was never a big fan of Contact so I wasn't too sad that they cut that out.

I LOVED "One Song GlorY" where Roger was having all the flashbacks. I thought that song was done really well.

*sigh* I could go on for hours with how much I love that show. I have seen it 5 times on stage.

The song with "Kiss me, it's beginning to snow" is called "Christmas Bells" I THINK. You're right- it is a bummer that it was kept out. And it was a beautiful rendition of Glory was so well-done, though I'm surprised they didn't even hint at April's suicide. Oh well, I give it 2 thumbs waaaaaaaaaay up! (Think my next cat is going to be named Mimi
)

Yup, it is based on La Boheme. And, judging by some of your IMO posts, you're definitely of the right mindset to see the show and enjoy how wonderful it really is (it's a veeeeeeery liberal show!). Definitely worth seeing. Plus, the movie version is easy to understand (the stage show is a bit confusing), so it may be better to see the movie version first so once you see the show you'll know exactly what's going on.

Allie, had no doubt you'd be a fan girl
. As for having an Anthony Rapp look-alike, all I can do is quote Napoleon Dynamite..."LUCKY!!!"

I've been singing "Ouuuuuuuuuut Tonight" in the shower for weeks. I'm so psyched!
Don't have it, but that's EXACTLY how my friend was for about a month or 2 before the movie came out. She saw the play first, so she was totally psyched, which got me pretty excited. Just saw it yesterday, and OMG I loved it!! I cried, too....My gosh, it was so overwhelming and so wonderfully done!

It is very loosely based on La Boheme but it sure ain't opera. It's classic rock and roll. The movie is quite good. I did find the cast a little old for the characters but better than seeing someone who really can't sing play the roles. (ie Nicole Kidman, Renee Zwelleger etc.)

Go see it and enjoy. Like I said before bring your tissues.

I love theatre too. I realized from your cat's names that you were a theatre buff. I've seen Les Mis 8 times mostly for business reasons. Have you seen The Producers? There is a movie version coming out in the next few weeks.

Did you see Mama Mia, Fiddler or Wicked yet? There is a website called Talkin' Broadway you might be interested in. They have forums like this discussing various theatre productions.

Glad you liked Rent.
