I have a roomate who has a cat (for some reason i never accept this cat into my personal circle.) the cat has some real personality issues, but the one i am wondering about the most is that she beggs to be petted.. then bites you for it.

the cat will meow till you pay attention to her, then rub her face against your hand unril you start petting her. she will prompltly plop down and enjoy about 10 seconds of petting before taking little nips at you and pushing your hand away. i used to think it was just play and keep petting but often she will get down right angry and put her ears back and his a little.

any clue as to why this may be. is she just a picky cat who wants to be petted in a cirtain special way?

If there are no health issues, it's a cat that only tolerates short petting sessions or doesn't like tummy rubs.

My Joji and Skinny dislike their tummies petted.

I think the cat needs attention (asking to be patted). Anyway, my Casper react in such manner (minus the biting). why the cat bites, well, the thing i can think of is that, the cat thinks u r playing with him/her. juz make sure the cat don't over do it...

I am pretty sure she is not playing. she is actually very human in her mannerisims. she will use her front paws and push my hand away and only get angry if i continue to try to pet her.. the confusing part is that as soon as i pull away and leave her alone she comes back assking for pettings.

Has the cat been checked by a vet to ensure that there are no health issues that she's trying to let you know about?!

It may be that she's just sensitive to over petting and feels the need for a break in between sessions. When she gets angry, leave her to it and then pet her again once she's calmed down - work to her rules!

mav used to do that all the time. she liked ot be petted but not for too long or she got angry. its just the way they are i'm afraid

but saying that, she's nealry two now and hasnt done that for almost a year so your room mates cat might grow out of it.

if you feel like the cat wants attention still after pushing you away trying playing with it with a wand toy or a cat dancer if you can get one. or just sit there and talk to it for a while.

it may grow out of this habit, it may not. but you just have to learn to recognise its warning signs and stop just before it pushes you away - leave it wanting more.
