Would You Use a service like this?

Hello Cat Lovers,

I have a serious question to ask:

As many of you are lamenting over a cat that is lost/missing, perhaps you can help me with a concept I have been spinning around in my head.

What if there was a website dedicated to finding lost pets wut much of the features and information that are already are on the web, but offered something more...

What if you could go to this site and not only post your missing pets information on a message board, but you could fill out an online lost pet report, attach a photo and have it transmitted via e-mail to all the local animal shelters and animal control agencies in your area?

What are some of the benifits or drawbacks to a site like this?

What else could it include?

Should it be free or should it be a pay-only service?

If you were willing to pay for this, how much would you consider to be reasonable?

Just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks...

i've seen one already, i registered on something similar when i lost my cat.

i think you could post a missing poster for free and have it circulated around the area to all the vets etc for a small charge. they also had a template for a lost poster to print out.

I think there are a few sites along these lines in the works already. I don't know if they provide their services for free or charge a fee.

Yes, I have seen such sites, too. But unless it had local affiliations, I don't see how it would help much. What good will it do if I lose a cat in NW Illinios, to have it e-mailed to a vet in San Francisco? Or if it is done locally, how would you get all the vets signed up, and reading the e-mails?

What reading this site makes me want to do is get microchips for my cats at their next appt!
