We found this beautiful kitten yesterday I have kept her but the problem is she uses the kitty litter as her bed. I need to know how to train her that the litter is for something else. She has went poo and pee all over the house floor. I need help on what to do because I really want to keep this kitten. She is very loveable. HELP

The first thing you need to do is take the little one to the vet for a full exam, shots, and schedule her to be spayed. It's possible her "potty problems" could be the result of worms, a urinary tract infection, or some other physical problem.
Once you've ruled out any physical problems, there are a number of things you can do to train her to use the litterbox. Many members here swear by a litter called cat-attract, which you can purchase at petsmart or other pet stores, which is very attractive to cats and encourages them to use their litterbox.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the reply. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow. Already have the appointment. I don't feel she is old enough to be fixed. She is very small and so lovable. I hope we can get this problem fixed. I will keep you informed.

She definitely needs a vet check. Also, a second litterbox may help. If she is so impressed with the litterbox that she wants to sleep in it, maybe she will go potty in a second one. Then limit her to a small room, like a bathroom. If she was outside before, she could just potty wherever. But cats are naturally clean, and she will learn to use the litter quickly.

Most important, the next mistake she makes, pick it up and put it in the litterbox. This will help her understand what you want.

Maybe you could give her a little box with a soft blanket or towel to be a little cozy bed.

Also, if you found her, you need to check with the neighbors to see if someone lost her.

Congrats on your new baby!

Is the litterbox a covered one? If so, maybe the kitten feels more secure as it's a closed in area. I'd just get a box and put a blanket or towel in it and show her that place to sleep.
When she poo's put it up and place it in the litter box and gentley place her in the litter box.NEVER scould her.....she'll become very affraid of you.
Good luck, she's lucky to have someone care enough to take her in.Before long, she'll be one of your best buddies.

Hi, take her to the box, stand her in it and holding her front legs from in back, 'walk' them quickly a few times (gently) in the sand (or whatever). She'll get the idea right away. Then leave her alone and see what happens. If she doesn't know it's for pooping, she won't use it, but if she's shown (and it only takes a few back-&-forths with your help, she'll use it.

I have that problem with mine too. After it's clean, they will sleep in it. Luckily as it doesn't stay clean much, they find another place to sleep (except for Avalon, who was the dirtiest cat ever)

Take her "mistakes" to the litter box, and take her afterwoods to sniff at. If you catch her in fraganti take her to the box (it means messing up the floor, but it's worth it)

If this doesn't work, just change the litterbox to a new place and let her have that place for a bed...

I agee with those saying make her a bed in another box. May help, may not! Marlee is great about using the litter box, haven't had one accident since I brought her home, but every once in a while she will stay lay in her litter box. Who knows why, maybe she likes the texture of Swheat Scoop. She will lay there til she sees me watching her and I'll say nono and she'll usually move on her way. Cats are crazy creatures!

Chances are this kitten is quite young, and has never been shown by the momcat how to use a litterpan. Kittens eliminate when and where they want. Worms will only cause diarrhea, not the urge to void or poop. Your kitten needs to be in a small room with several litter pans, that are easy for her to get up and over. I use the throwaway aluminum pans you can buy at the grocery store. They work well for the young ones. You will likely not be able to show this kitten how to use the litter pan, she has to figure this out for herself, so you have to be patient with her, allow her to make mistakes and understand she is not doing it to anger you. She is simply a kitten, and they pee and poop when the urge hits, no matter where they are, if they are fairly young, and I get a sense this one is a young kitten.
