Please help My Cat wont poo in his litter Box

Our Cat just wont poo in his litter box. First he had a small one that he outgrew so we figured we would buy a bigger one. so we got the one that is a self cleaner adn was much bigger. But still he poo's out of the litter box. He usually goes about 10 feet away from the litter box on the carpet.

The other day he went in the living room upstairs for the first time. He is only four years old and my parents are getting fed up with him. Is there anything anybody can suggest to start pooing in the litter box. The parent's are threatening to send him back to the shelter. please help me

Try having a second box. Some cats like separate boxes for pee and poop. Put right on top of where he poops. It might be that he likes the idea of carpet instead of litter so put a piece of carpet in the box. Also make sure it's not a medical issue and be sure to clean where he's gone before so there isn't any leftover smell.

Often, innapropriate pooing and peeing is a sign of a physiological problem. Please take your cat to the vet to rule out any medical issues. Then, you might consider switching from the self-cleaning box. Some cats are startled by the noises they make. good luck!

I agree with the above post. Most likely the self cleaner went on before the cat got totally out of the box and now he's scared of it. Try giving him a seperate box and put it in the spot where he normally poos on the floor.

I would most certainly get him checked out by the vet to rule out any medical issues first. Sometimes if they have pain while using the litter box they will start associating the pain with the litter box (hmmm did that make sense?)
