We have three cats, one is 13 years old (male) and two females that are sisters, 1-1/2 years old. In general, they all use the litter pans without incident. BUT, one of the females once in a while will suddenly start running around in a panic and then stop anywhere, squat, and poop. Sometimes it is solid and sometimes it is diarrhea.

Any suggestions on what may be causing this problem? It happens about once every two to three weeks. The litter pan is clean, it just seems that she has to go suddenly and gets scared and forgets where the pan is. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Please take your cat to the vet ASAP. This sounds like a big medical problem. This behavior can be due to several different medical conditions, some of which can be relatively benign, but others can be quite serious.

Again, please take her to the vet right away!

I agree. It sounds to me like the act of having a bowel movement is distressing to her. That's most likely a health problem. I hope it's resolved soon.
