The grand final of the World Cyber Games takes place from 16 - 20 November in Singapore and will see 800 gamers take each other on in six PC games and two Xbox titles.
...
In the grand final the prize pot will be $500,000 and the overall winner will walk away with $150,000.

I'm into gaming a bit. I like RPG's (role-playing games), though I'm currently stuck in Diablo II (Battle Chest).

No matter what the "skill" there is probably someone out there who is making a living doing it. I have a friend whose job is to test games. So yes, he plays games for a living and makes a decent wage. Granted, he isn't employed by any of the big gaming companies so he doesn't always enjoy the games he has to play, but he does play computer games for a living.

I know of people, outside of the military, who basically make their living shooting competitively through sponsorships, book deals, instructional videos, etc. They make good money shooting and basically the books, videos, etc. sell because everyone knows how good they are.

Thing is, when you take a hobby or something you do for fun and turn it into a job, it does lose some of its luster. I've heard that from more than one profession. When it ceases to be something you do to relax and becomes your means of income and something you have to do, it just isn't as fun anymore. Be careful what you wish for...

No, haven't played it. There are a LOT of games I would love to play, but I have to get through Diablo II first.
