After walking through the mall and seeing the designer Christmas trees on display, I was curious on how everyone decorated their trees? Does everything match? Do you have a theme? What color lights do you prefer? I realize the kitties in your home may prohibit some decorations, but how do you decorate?

I have way more ornaments than I could ever actaully use, but I keep buying them!
I normally pick up a new ornament every time we go on vacation, so I have ornaments from all over. I love snowmen, so I have a lot of snowmen ornaments - matter of fact, I set up a small tree that is all snowmen. My regular tree is definitely a hodgepodge of ornaments. I normally have a large bow on the top with ribbon trailing down - it's blue with snowflakes and irridescent white. The trailing ribbons may not go up this year because of Abby. This is our first Christmas with her. I like clear lights and my husband likes colored, so we compromise. I get strands of each and twist them together so I have sort of a pastel effect. I also have a tree skirt that is blue velvet with snowflakes on it. I believe when I unpack it, it will be covered in Molly's fur.

Here is a picture from 2003. We didn't have a tree last year, we moved on December 23rd.

Oh I love your tree! Is that Molly laying in front of it? How sweet is that?

Our tree is pastels : baby blue, light purple and silver decorative balls, with clear lights, and silver garland! I really love it, its my first Christmas tree ever! (Harley's too!) Its all matchy, and I absolutely love it! I can't wait til after Christmas when everything goes on sale, then I will be able to stock up on more for next year

I went to one of the local shops in Green Bay yesterday that had some absolutley gorgeous trees. I should have worn a bib and I was drooling!!!
But I usually have clear lights but a couple of yrs ago I bought lights that have 6 or 7 settings for flashing other options. Those are multi colored.
No theme just all sorts of ornaments. I do however have many star trek ornaments (except for the 1st one!) and would like to display those but they are rather large and some are heavy so they stay in the boxes for now. I made a patchwork and lace treeskirt several yrs ago so I use that.

Hey that's how my tree looks. Except I have an angel at the top!!! Its a hodgepodge of stuff. We are a little worried about this year because we will have 3 young kittens. Pooh is 5 months, Tigger is 6months and now Mocha who is about 8 weeks.
By the end of Christmas normally halfway up the tree its missing ornaments.
So I really don't have a theme!!

Our tree has white mini-lights and my decorations are all hand-crocheted and starched bells, balls, snowflakes and angels. So basically my tree is green with white lights and white decorations. My MIL crochets gorgeous tall angels which she starches and that is my tree topper.

I use red, gold and silver strands of beads instead of tinsel. If any ornaments fall there is no damage.

Under the cats, mostly.
This will be the first tree ever in Denmark - so I'm looking forward to trying something new. I like matching baubles, and classy tinsel and those eenyweeny white fairy lights... so Rune's in for a surprise when I put the tree up. He doesn't have a tree. Yet

Her favorite place was under it. I would normally keep a little spot clear of gifts just for her to lay in....

Aww, that picture with Molly is so touching
.

I pulled out the Christmas decorations last night (couldn't wait!) and put up some snowflake lights in the windows and various holiday pillows/throws on the couches.

As for tree decorating, I like kinda some funky stuff, some Victorian stuff. I have a couple of really neat Victorian-esque cat ornaments. My favorite time to buy ornaments is the days following Christmas- Target has some awesome ornaments and they're always 50% off after Christmas!

As for colors, most of my ornaments are white/silver/light blue. That's my favorite Christmas color scheme.

My friend's tree was really pretty last year. She put blue lights in the middle of the tree, all the way up and down it, like near the trunk, and then white lights on the outer part of the tree. Then she had blue and white and I think silver ornaments. It was really pretty, and I think doing it in red and white would be pretty too! The only downfall is how scratched up she got putting the lights on!

Well I have blue lights if I remember correctly and star that I don't like very much...I'll have to look around agains this year and see if I can find something better.

Other than that, I have the dorkiest Christmas Tree ever. Star Wars, Harry Potter, a smattering of Lord of the Rings, and some Sesame Street ornaments. Oh and a couple of cat ornaments.

I'm still building up my collection of ornaments, last year was my first year with my own tree. Just gotten remember not to get anything breakable since last year Gandalf and Samwise both climbed the tree. Oh and I'll have to pick up some more candy canes because Samwise loves them so much. I bought a seven foot tree just so I'd have plenty of room for all the ornaments I love so much.

Here's a picture of the tree last year before the cats "redecorated" it. It looks awfully bare.

Wow, those are some nice Christmas trees. My cat would always mess with the ornament apples, they would be everywhere in the morning.

Our tree is a variety of everything. I like white twinkle lights...Earl likes multi-colored lights. So we have both. I have a lot of ornaments - I mean a LOT! Mom made sure that my sister and I would both have plenty of ornaments when we got out on our own, so from like birth on we got one or two ornaments from her, another one from my grandmother, and of course whatever we wanted to buy leading up to Christmas.
I also started collecting kitty Christmas ornamants a couple years ago (I decided it was a "collection" after I bought like 5 of them at one place!). Earl has a bunch of the Hallmark ornaments - so we have Star Wars and Star Trek and a coupld of NASA ships too on the tree.

I had a lovely theme going until I met Earl. I would have white lights with blue and silver garland, and later (after kitties and garland wasn't going to work) gold and silver ribbon. *sigh* Then he decided he wanted the multicolored lights and that threw my color theme out the window.

I've seen trees with lights around the trunk and they are gorgeous! I keep saying I want to try that, then forget! Thanks for the reminder!

My tree is docorated Victorian. I love it, but my son is not real happy about a pink and silver Christmas Tree.

Love the kitty under the tree look!!

I'm not sure if I'll be putting my tree up this year. Tia is nothing like my cat I had for 13 years. Pretty was never the type to go after the tree, but Tia I know is going to have a field day with it. I told my son I may just put out the table size tree this year. He's okay with it as long as there's a tree somewhere.

What is it with guys and multicolored lights???
I had blue lights with blue and silver decorations until Shy voiced his opinion on it and said he hated it
. We have compromised and if I use multicolored lights and decorations, he's giving me the "OK" (not that I need it) to get a new tree with new decorations. I just didn't know he felt that strongly about multicolored lights... I think guys are sorta like crows...they just like things that are colorful, bright and shiny.
(this IS a joke...)

As a kid living with my grandparents we would always decorate the tree with lots of lights, lots of ornaments, lots of garland and LOTS of tinsel.

I loved it as a kid but now that I have my own place and have THREE cats that's just not gonna work out. hahaha

Last year we did a lot of twinkle lights -- the clear kind --, pretty purple ribbon and purple ornaments. We have a few special ornaments that we like that we put on the tree also.

My tree is huge for my house but I love it! I always to multi-colored lights. Our main colors for the whole house at Christmas is dark red and gold trimming. I'm planning on making a tree skirt this year from red velvet and gold trimmings and putting gold beaded snowflakes on it too. (Wish me luck!) I have a variety of ornaments too. I worked for Hallmark so I have a bunch from there. All of them are hung with red ribbon with gold trimming I bought a few years ago. We bought about ten yards of it so I have a lot for future ornaments too I love castles and music boxes so there are a few of thoes on the tree. Snowmen too! I have some ornaments Mom gave me from her tree when I got married too. Thoes are really special to me! I want more ornaments but I figured I shouldn't just run out and buy a bunch so I can collect special ones over the years. Oh and our angel is a boyd's bear!

When I lived at home we had 2 trees. One was multi-colored and that always went in the living room. We had another huge tree that went in the family room with the high ceilings that was white lights with white, red, and gold ornaments.

Here is last year's tree:

We always cut down a real tree. Then it's decorated with multi colored lights, non flashing. My tree has always been done with little red bows placed all around the tree with a GIANT bow on top with long streamers running down through the tree. There are a variety of ornaments from Hallmark collectibles, to school made specials all over. This year I'm going to do it in Burgundy rather than red bows. It will match my decor better. Oh, this is also the first year I've had kitties, ought to be interesting!
