My cat is a female 12 year old DSH. Recently I took her to the vet for a loud breathing noise. The vet performed chest and lung xrays as well as a head xray and they all come out normal. She had to be put under to do this and after this procedure she now has lost her voice and the breathing has got louder and a kind of whistling noise.

She is eating normally, going to the toilet normally as well as drinkign normally. Everything is normal apart from this loud breathing. Has anyone ever heard of this? She is also overweight.

I'm no expert and I don't know if it's OK to compare dogs to cats but my dog was overweight and we couldn't go for walks because he would just stop in the middle of the road sit down to take a breath. He couldn't breeze he was making a wheezing sound. One day he just layed down and didn't eat or get up. We took him to the vet and turned out he has a heart condition. Maybe your vet should check your kitty's heart. My dog was about 7 years old when he started breezing heavily. Hope this helps and your kitty feels better.

Is it possible she might have a mild URI ? What kind of cat is she? Persians sometimes have breathing problems because of their short faces.

It really could be anything from asthma (though that normally shows up on chest x-rays) to a heart condition. Or something as simple as a viral cold. Is she breathing with her mouth open? Does she seem to be having actualy trouble breathing? Those would be conditions for which you would need a vet immediately.

yes I think I agree with Stephanie - this does not sound normal at all to me.

What is your vet saying since the she lost her voice and the breathing has got louder after the tests?
