That sounds so painful!!

How are everyone's plans coming along?

We have 62 days left until the big day!!

Almost everything is done...just need transportation for the day and our wedding night suite.

Our Stag & Doe was last weekend and we made a little bit of $$ that will help towards everything.

I have my bridal shower at the end of July...everything is happening so fast!!

We have been receiving the RSVP's in the mail and so far we have 22 confirmed guests.

It's all so exciting but so stressful!!

I hope everyone's wedding planning is going well!

I went looking at places to put the wedding yesterday... 357 days to go!!!

One place looked really nice... it's called Heritage Hall with a kitchen, bridal dressing room, bathrooms and a gallery/lounge place on a lower level. The Hall itself is painted cream and white, with huge windows... The biggest challenge would be figuring out how to decorate it in keeping with my theme and not going overboard on budget with it.... It sits on a big lawn called the parade grounds, which are nice although infested with thistles. The area right to the back of the hall is nice though, and they have a porch and are planning on putting in brick work to make more of a patio.

http://www.nrhc.org/rentals/tour.html

We also went to go see a couple of more B&B, woodsy places, but the first place we didnt' like so much (there was stuff piled up in some areas and it looked a little ratty. The other place was manned by a woman who was very adamant that only 60 people could be accomodated (she has a couple clearings that would be fine for 100, but hey)... but it wasn't quite what we were picturing either.

The fh really wants the reception to be outdoors, which is fine, but I want to find a place that won't cost an arm and a leg to rent, because then we'll have to rent the tent and chairs and tables on top of everything else... He also wants a rain contingency... which won't happen with the outdoor places. Best we can do is a tent, but I think I have to let him figure that out on his own.

Wow Tracy, so I guess you're next up, huh?
Have you had the stag and doe party yet?
Let's see, I have two showers next weekend (the one the 'maids are throwing and one the next day that my mom's friends is throwing for all of her teacher friends). Got the invitations DONE (did all of the addressing in calligraphy, which was fun) and have already started to receive RSVPs.
Other than that, just putting together the odds and ends. Anyone considering having a candy bar at their reception?

Im getting married on the 18th. Everything is done just need to meet with photographer with my mom. Booked registrar gave notice to council and paid registrar. Although they rejected my vows for being too "Christian", as I am not Christian I don't know how I managed that, TV maybe? Anyway have to call them and find out what is actually acceptable.

Having two "first dances" kd lang Consquences of Falling and Selena Dreaming of You.

I'm having a chocolate fountain sort of like a candy bar?

Maria, that chocolate fountain will be such a hit! Not familiar with that k.d. Lang song, but the Selena song is beautiful! Your big day is just around the corner now!

Tracy, what a great first dance song!!
We love Norah Jones; "Come Away With Me" is actually our last dance of the night!

Now, I actually have something to post!

It looks like we have a first choice of locations, which is here:
http://www.naturemuseum.org/index.php?id=173

We'd have the ceremony in the McCormick Room and the reception in the South Gallery. It's all going to have to be inside, since April in Chicago is still, well, winter!

If we DO in fact get this venue (we'll have a deposit somewhere probably by Halloween because the rentals on places in the city get CRAZY) we were thinking about having a theme of "All things grow with love" and using very organic decorations...smooth rocks, floating candes, "wild" flowers (as wild as we can find in Chicago when it's still snowing)

And a first choice in dates, which is April 12, 2008.

I've recruited some attendents...and that's the other thing. We're just having attendants and they can stand on whichever side they please. We have one very close transgendered friend who will still be in transition at that point and we don't want to make her (she's still a woman at this point) feel uncomfortable. Plus, some of my best friends from home are guys and his are girls, and we don't want them to feel alienated standing with the person they know less. Other than the bachelor/ette parties, they'll be invited to all functions. We're going to have a total of 10...and I get 2 maids of honor! I couldn't be asked to choose between my best friend (who is like a sister) and my actual sister!

I've also recruited some of my very good friends to play in a string trio, for free obviously, but they would have been invited to the wedding anyway. Beethoven's string trios are gorgeous and I know that if we had Canon in D (aka Pachabel's) or something equally trite at the wedding, I would shoot myself, if some other music friend didn't shoot me first.

Connie, one of our caretakers' at the shelter's wife, has volunteered (I didn't ask, she just stepped up!) to design and make my dress for the cost of materials. She recently graduated from the Chicago institute of design. I'm going to have to get her a ridiculously nice gift!

Similarly, a very close friend of mine who just graduated with a degree in acoustical physics will, accompanied by my good friend the 60GB iPod and his fancy sound equipment, be our DJ. We're going to have one of Ian's attendants emcee since Scott would rather not and Jim loves being given a microphone.

Let's see....what else....our biggest challenge is going to be the ceremony. Both of us are extremely uncomfortable in churches and would feel hypocritical getting married in any specific faith because we're not active participants in any congregation and we both don't feel it's fair of us to sort of "barge in" on actual active members of any church, when we have no intention of converting. I guess we'll have to see if we can get a justice of the peace to come out and do some sort of ceremony for us. As long as it's legal, we're fine.

Well, I think that's about it!

Hi girls! I know I've been sparse lately but I feel like I'm running around with my head cut off!

ONLY 21 days to go! In 3 weeks, I will be a married woman. Kinda seems surreal! Anywho, we put together the favors last night, chocolate covered coffee beans in a clear box with pink ribbon and a label that says, "Choc' it up to Love...Dennis & Susan 8.19.06" Glad that's done!

I'm going to check out a wedding set up at the reception place this weekend. Can't wait to see it all set up. AND our bachelor/bachelorette parties are next weekend. It's all coming so fast!!! Did anyone have theirs yet?

How's everyone else doing?
Susan

Nuh uh...might give me away!
I was told I can't think of everything on my plate at once...but I can't help it!! I work full time, I made my own bridal shower invitations (I still have more to print and cut), I'm a pampered chef consultant and am travelling about 4 hours to do a show tomorrow...oh, and I STILL don't have all the addresses for the guest list. I've been planning a lot of this stuff on my own as well. Thank goodness I don't have to foot the bill. Also, invitations have to go out in about two weeks. *pulls hair out*

So yeah...2 months and 17 days away....

Either that or there are a lot of non-denominational ministers that do weddings as side-jobs. That is what we did because we are of different faiths, but not really active currently. Because this particular minister does weddings almost every weekend she was very good and well organized! I was thrilled. They are also usually not bound to a specific location and go wherever (we had an outdoor wedding at a B&B).
