A small gray and white kitten, no bigger than a football, appeared on my back door step rumaging through my trash. It got scared when it saw me, but quickly came back and started playing with the falling leaves. Could it be the black and white stray in my yard was pregenant, and this is her kitten, now weaned and on it's own? They both ate out of the same bowl, but at seperate times.

It is possible that this is the kitten of the first stray. Does the kitty look healthy? Has the other stray "possible" momma been seen by a vet and spayed?
If you're considering taking in this new guy, make sure he's seen by a vet before you let him into your home-especially if you have other kitties.

Good luck!

OllyExtra05: It is possible that this is the kitten of the first stray.

That is exactly what I was thinking, I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same idea. The original stray used to come only once a day, but recently she comes twice a day and eats all the food up now, asking for seconds. And now i'm seeing this young kitten, put 2 and 2 together and i'm thinking this is her child. She did smell it's scent and got very afriad, but if your a stray unless you have newborn kittens basically it's "every cat for him/her self." No she has not been fixed the fix-a-feral would only have worked if we were keeping her, which isnt happening unfortunelty. Both my parents have been asking around if anyone wants the cats, but everyone either has cats or hates them. The shelters and rescues are booked (except no-kill shelters)which isnt any help. I was hoping by now she would have had a home, but now that i see thid kitten it has confirmed my worst fear that she would get pregnant, now I wont be able to handle this because there all going to keep breeding and a new colony will start, if I found a home for her months ago this never would have happened, and she would have been happy now and so would I. I feel so bad for her and the kitten, and who knows if she had more than one kitten, there may be more roaming the neighborhood?

He/she shows up each night now, but refuses to eat dry food, only the canned food, and I must mix that with water to make it like a cat shake so it's edible. This kitten is clearly very young and inexperienced in hunting.

Keith you are one of those people called a "cat magnet" aren't you. LOL.

Hmmm. Mixing "cat shakes" for feral kittens.

Ok I have a dilema. My mom found out about the kittens, and now she is mad because she didnt want me feeding more than one cat. I cant help it if the kittens learned off their mother to eat at my house, they are cute though! My mom says come spring she is getting cat repellent so no more cats come in our yard. Thats not even the issue now, my point is all that money and time I spent, at my own house, and still that cat/her kittens have no home. Still no places will take them, and that poster idea wont work because I just dont trust everyone that they will be responcible enough to care for a cat/kitten. Petfinder didnt work either. I asked everyone I know who likes cats, but nobody will take one. Does anyone here want a cat/kitten? If the cats dont come to my house, they wont eat, and that repellent will keep them away from here, which I dont want.
Beetween the railroad cats and now this, I am depressed and angry at the world, this is so unfair I cant believe something this bad could happen to someone nice like me, just trying to help some homeless animals.

Keith..you are faced in a situation where you are unable to help them more than feeding them and left on their own..without being fixed, they will only reproduce and add more to the overpopulation. That would be unfair to them and to you. They have a better chance to find a home at the shelter than roaming outdoors and perhaps there will be someone at the shelter willing to foster them.

Update: I just saw the cat right now in the dark, but she was with her 2 kittens! The gray one took all the food I put out, and the black one got just some scraps. Apparently the black one isnt used to eating on it's own, it kept trying to nurse but the mom shooed it towards the gray one. The mom was bringing the black one to my door step, but when she saw my cats she told the black one to hide, and she follwed it. After the black one left with the mom, but the gray was still eating, all alone! It was looking for its mom and sibling, but when it saw they were gone, it started meowing. Soon the black one came and they left together. Well it looks like she only has 2 kitties, and that they are getting closer to me since their mom is close to me. I wish I could find a home for all 3 of them, they dont deserve to be left out in the freezing weather.

Have you tried negotiating with your mom? Maybe in exchange for some extra chores or getting better grades (or whatever she would appreciate) you could adopt all three? You sound like a very kind young man, I hope your mom will let you keep the kitties.
