need advice

we got a call from the shelter today saying they may have our lost cat. When we got there it looked very much like him but I was not sure. My wife said thats him and she was hugging & kissing him. She seemed so sure so we took him home. Now we realize that it is not him. We had asked where they found him when we were there and went to the area to look for lost cats signs, there were none. We are going to put and ad in the paper for found cat. If no one responds we will probably keep him with our other 11. Should we bring him back to the shelter? Thanks.

If you can keep him and no one else claims him then do give him a nice home. Make sure you atleast tell the shelter about it. They will probably be grateful for a foster home. I hope you find your lost kitty.
