Update on the Savannah, GA burglary case (warning: this is disturbing) :

http://www.wtoctv.com/Global/story.a...29208&nav=0qq6

Please everyone write to the District Attorney urging him to fight for the toughest sentence possible. Here's the letter I sent.

November 17, 2005

The Honorable Spencer Lawton Jr.
Office of the District Attorney, Eastern Judicial Circuit
133 Montgomery St.
Savannah, GA 31401

Honorable Spencer Lawton Jr.:

I am writing to ask you to fight for the toughest possible jail sentence for Alexander Davis. It is clearly aggravated cruelty to put someone's family pet in the oven and burn her to death. Davis had no cause to harm the dog other than sheer cruelty.

Because of Davis' disregard for the lives of others, the poor dog suffered a terrible death and the family suffered the loss of a loved one. As a consequence, Davis should be sentenced 5 years in prison for animal cruelty in addition to his sentence for the burglaries.

Most of the time, people who commit violent crimes against companion animals get little more than a slap on the wrist. After all, their victim is "just an animal". That sends a message to all animal abusers that they have the right to beat, torture, mutilate, and kill other people's family pets. Let's send a different message this time- If you intentionally commit an act of violence against a companion animal, you will do serious jail time.

Respectfully,

Barbara Woodcox, President

Hi Barb!

My letter has been sent! I sure hope he does get a max sentence and a message is sent to all animal abusers to be AFRAID! Personally I beleive if there was a law, "Let the punishment fit the crime" as they have in some countries, things would be alot different in this world today! How did are justice system get so screwed up? Why are there tougher laws and technicalities to protect the criminals then there are for the victims? Why should criminals have any rights at all? These are questions that over-whelm me everytime I think or hear about a slap on the hand sentence given to these criminals!

Great work!

What little you said in your post is enough to know I dont even want to read more.
Whoever was/is capable of something like this deserves the most strict punishment available!
They need that judge in the Ohio case of the kittens left in the woods to die.

What happened to the person that did this?

I am so disgusted by that article. I don't even know what else to say. Was the death penalty ever in place for people who committed such hideous crimes..?

I am so angry about this! I mean, 2 years ago, I wouldn't have cared much because I had never owned a pet before. After Miya came to live with me everything changed. All I know is that if that had been my baby's life, I would have hunted this man down!

Pets usually do change a lot in people, I see that every day.
It is sad to think that the state would not consider charging this person with every crime they could, even unpaid parking tickets if he had them just to get more jail time.

Most of the kind of people who would do such a thing are hardened criminals that have no good quality that would be worth trying to rehibilitate them.
Such awful animal abuse is usually telling you there is something REALLY REALLY wrong with this person and by the time you see it in an adult, it is too late.
