I read on another thread that cats get annoid because of liners, my cat wont us her litter box that often and it does seem that when she is using it she pulls the liner off the side. Is it because she doesnt like it? Should I just pore the litter in the litter box with no liner??

My cat HATED the liner!! He would dig down and rip it up - I wouldn't bother with a liner - Just give it a wipe when you change the litter and give it a good clean every few weeks or so, depending on how dirty it gets!

Liners are a waste of money, they just end up getting shredded by the cat's claws and the litter seeps underneath. I just scoop the box regularly, no problem.

I have heard it recommeneded to change litter boxes but if its been completely cleaned does that make a difference? Would the hatred of the liner stop her from using the litter box? I will try to stop using them and see if she goes back to using the box.
She has been peeing in the box still, at least I ussume so I dont see any when I clean the box but she hasnt been peeing on the rug just pooping on the rug in the bathroom, so I was she rug everytime to keep her from returning even after detergents and washing she still returns. Its been real frusterating.

Hmm....It could be because of the liner that she isn't pooping in their.

I would take the liner out and see what happens - Just make sure if she poops on the rug that you just put that poop in the tray so she gets the hint thats where it should be. Never scold her for it as she won't understand - But if you catch her in the act, just pick her up (Yes, even mid-poop) and place her in the tray and tell her she is a good girl. Hopefully she will then go in the tray!

Good luck!

Ok I wil try that. Cats are so different! I am used to having dogs so learning not to scold and the bacteria thing I was reading earlier! I am used to knowing dogs have cleaner mouths (still not letting their mouth near mine but not too worried about bacteria) and if a dog has been scolded they usually learn. Thanks for all the help!

No problem!!!

Cats are such independant creatures! But they are full of love and joy and there is nothing better than cuddling up to your kitty after you;ve had a bad day!

This is what I do. They keep the box much cleaner and easier to change, plus the claws can't rip them and they absorb some of the liquid.

I noticed on the Arm & Hammer site yesterday (I use Super Scoop cat litter) that they are marketing rip-proof litterbox liners, so far only available in New England. Too bad I'm in Kansas! But my grocery bags are free.

i used a bag, so that the weight of the box was on top of the under portion of the bag. also, you could close the open end of the bag with a twistie, making it much harder for the cat to move the liner. but you don't have to use a liner - it just makes cleaning up a bit easier.

I found that using liners was worse than not....because of their nails ripping them...and then the litter leaks out. It`s just easier for me to use a plastic bag to dump the old litter in to dispose of it...and then put the litter pan in the tub and wash it out every time I change litter. (I have a toilet brush just for this job so that I don`t have to use my hands and a rag. ) Pretty easy job...easier than trying to fight with liners for me!
