Hi All,

My 7 month old boy started sneezing this week. He only sneezed in the morning. Yesterday he sneezed just a couple of times but today 10 times at least. And it's not a sneeze and then stop, he sneezes 3 times in a row. When we first took them he was sneezing so I took him to the vet and it turned out to be Upper Respiratory Infection. That was 4 months ago and he was doing fine. It is 70F in the apartment so I don't think he's cold. They are indoor cats. What he does a lot is go through my kitchen cabinets and climbs in between the dishwasher and the cabinets. There is probably tons of dust in there, but I don't understand why he would be sneezing only in the morning.
Otherwise he's well, he eats, plays and goes to the bathroom fine. He sleeps the whole night with us in bed. A friend of mine has a cat that sneezes a lot but he does that all the time. She was over last tuesday. Could she have brought smth? It's been almost a week. Any ideas what it could be? We have an appointment with a vet this friday. Should I rush him to the vet today?

My Murphy sneezes frequently
I took him to the vet last fri for a follow up from a previous URI- he gave him the ok- but now I think its coming back, one of his eyes is getting a discharge
I really hope its just allergies or something, but I am not that lucky
I hope your cat just has allergies or something too. I am sick of this uri thing already ( sigh)

I hope Murphy feels better.
I didn't even think of allergies. It could be allergies. But then again just in the morning?

If it's only the sneezing, it'll wait until Friday.

If there's any trouble breathing and/or thick colored discharge, then go right away.

As crazy as that sounds, that is the only time of day my allergies flare up! Think about it kitty is sleeping or at rest while you are asleep, when you get up he becomes active and everything starts "moving". When I first wake up in the morning I usually ( soo sorry gross) blow out some dust looking stuff out of my nose- all the stuff we breathed in when I was asleep and coul'nt sneeze it out or move it out. So that doesnt sound crazy to me at all! When he sneezes do you notice any boogers or like green snot coming from his nose? Then i would say def go to the vet, but if there is nothing coming out of his sneeze it is probably just a reaction to something. A vet visit could'nt hurt though

Just called our vet and made an appointment for today. The whole allergy thing does make sense. The last time I waited too long and I came home and saw that Kuzya had (sorry gross as well) his nose covered in green discharge. I rushed him to the vet. But that's how it started sneezing in the morning. I hope it's not URI. There is no discharge or anything comming out of his nose. It does seem a little runny. I spoke to the vet he said he's not really concerned since it's been two days but he know me (panicky mother) and said he'll see us today. Kuzya will really hate the thermometer up his butt.

I see your kitty is a young'en too! Murphy is about 5 months old, I guess their immune systems are'nt full grown yet? We just had a cold snap here in missouri. Last week it was like 70-80 degrees now it is a blustery 30 sigh
Maybe that is what flared up whatever is going on with my Murph?Whats the weather been like where you are?

Today actually is the weather switch day. It was 70 in the afternoon, and by 9 it will be in low 40's.

From day one he was weak. We welcomed Kuzya and Nafanya into our family on 7/3/05. They are brother and sister that we have adopted from the local center. They both had their surgeries (neutering and spaying) done on 7/2 and we had to give them medication. Nafanya (the girl) was fine with the medication but Kuzya (the boy) the first time he got medication just started moving in a slow motion and went to sleep. He was very skinny. As Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve been told the first thing to be on the look out is URI for the kitties that come from the shelter. We were able to spot it first on Kuzya because heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s so much weaker. They are 7 months old now and are doing well overall. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll keep you updated on what the vet said. Thanks so much for your input.

Well went to the vet yesterday. The thermometer up the butt was not that bad.
Turns out URI was coming back. He gave us some medication and vitamins. We'll be fine after all.

My kitty has never had a sneezing problem but did have eye discharge. The vet told me that he has kitty herpes! The herpes usally flare up in their sinuses and that causes eye discharge and sneezing. The vet gave me Viralus, a powder medication that I put in his food every morning. The eye discharge problem has gone away and any build-up he had in his nose when away too. My vet said that somewhere around 80% of cats have herpes (different completely from human herpes), especially if they come from a shelter. THey also said he'll always have, there's no cure. He was vacinated for it but apparently he got the virus before the vaccine. Just wanted to pass on what I know!

When I first brought home my 1.5 year old cat she sneezed a whole lot! It would be 3-5 in a row 1-2 times a day. The vet put her on antihistimens and it went away. So my little girl had spring time allergies. We haven't needed to continue but we'll see when sprign comes if she needs them again.

I`m glad it was URI...at least that is very treatable....allergies are for a lifetime...and other things could be far worse. I hope he is feeling much better really soon.
