training to wear collar/harness

We got Nikita from the city pound when she was 4 months old... She's now 6 months, and we haven't been able to get her to wear a collar or harness. Every collar we buy is too big, and she gets her lower jaw caught in it. We even bought an elastic collar that fit a neck size smaller than 8 inches, and she still gets caught!

What can I do to help her get used to wearing a collar? I don't want her to get caught in it when I'm not around and hurt herself...

I think this might solve your collar problem:

I have them on my boys (black).

Our Chloe would get her jaw caught in her collar too. Strangely enough, when we put a few dangles on her collar (rabies tag, name tag...etc.) it weighed it down enough that she no longer got herself entangled in it. Perhaps you could try that. It did take Chloe a while to get used to having the collar but now she doesn't seem to mind it.
