Not a Christmas tree mind you, but a cat tree. We haven't had a Christmas tree in 10 years and don't plan on getting one this year. But I miss decorating them.

So I just had this brilliant idea to decorate one of my tall cat trees. I got as far as marabou feathers as garland (I have yards of feathers from my business). And perhaps cat toys as ornaments. But how to hang them (won't use hooks)?

Any ideas for me, and am I absolutely completely nuts?

Come on all you creative folks out there - let's all decorate my tree! I will take a picture and post once finished.

Only one criteria: whatever goes on it has to be completely safe for the cats and dogs.

Hang the ornaments with Ribbon! We do that anyway because it is pretty. We went out and bought a ton of this pretty thin ribbon a few years ago and I just snip a piece when I need more for new ornaments.

i'm doing something similar so we have to compare pics! lol

i'm going to buy two small cheap trees and decorate one for the cats and one for the dog so they dont feel left out.

i'm going to make felt catnip filled decorations and like you, marabou trim garland. was also thinking of fur and squeeky mice hanging by ribbons and paper cones and baskets filled with cat treats.

if you do a search for victorian christmas trees, most of their decorations were hand made so it can give you some ideas and projects you could adapt.

how about ping pong balls instead of baubles.

How about using a needle and thread and threading it loosely through the carpeting on the cat tree? that way it's attatched and no one will get hurt. And if they pull them off, it's easily sewn back on.

I have boxes and boxes of home made ornaments that I've made over the years. I'm trying to get a family member to take them off my hands cause it's obvious I'm not going to put up a real tree in the future. I sold off my Xmas craft books on E-bay last year.

I LOVE the idea of ping-pong balls! Hot glue them to a ribbon and tie them to the posts! This could get VERY interesting........

How about some classic red yarn that's always associated with cats? And maybe a few toy mice...and something (I'm not sure what) to do with pawprints? Can't wait to see pictures! I'm sure it will turn out very nice--great idea!
