I think my cat just had a tasty meal of a cockroach!

Out of nowhere suddenly a cockroach emerged in my sink! I sorta freaked out and went looking for a newspaper to swat it and before I could do that Pablo pounced on it and crunched it off and happily digested it. I know cats hunt birds and rats...but cockroach is a bit freaky! Do all the kitties share this affinity towards creepy crawlies?

Yep! If they can catch it, there's a chance they will eat it.

Oh yeah! Two of mine - Gracie and Pete - will catch and eat every kind of creepy crawly creature you can imagine.

My indoors cats will hunt it down and kill anything what is a bug or what is flying , but they will not eat it . Well they eat a flie sometimes but for sure no roaches .
Now my outdoor cats will eat all what cralwls around , even the lizzards

ugh...cats are strange sometimes with what they choose to eat! lol

I always know when a spider or something is around b/c yasmine will follow it around and swat at it!

Mine love moths and beetles and spiders! We don't have cockroaches for which I am thankful, but Ellie caught and ate a large grasshopper once.

Do they get sick if they eat cockroaches, insects, arthropods or whatever else they come upon? If not, how come?

oh yes, Jupiter is a mighty fine wasp hunter.

quite often in the summer i would go to the bathroom and find ten lined up in a neat row. how he didnt get stung is beyond me.

My 21 year old brother actually asked me why wasps come into our house and line up in a row before dying! lol

They don't seem to get sick - I don't know what would happen if they ate something really poisonous, but normal (even if disgusting to our eyes) stuff seems Ok.

My boy LOVES to catch and eat bugs!!!

And I don't mind! It means I don't have to clean up the dead bodies!

aaaarrgh !!!!!you lot have just reminded me of the time i found patch stalking something behind the toilet,i asked him what it was and he looked at me ,'bless!!! butter wouldn't melt in his mouth'( i thought !!!) Lo and behold he had a spiders leg stuck in his teeth and the poor thing was dying on the floor ,it still makes me feel sick to think about it.

One of Oliver's nicknames is "The Buggie Hunter!" haha If it moves, he stares at it, if he can catch it and kill it, he eats it.... I dont get roaches, but he eats my spiders (except one, who is now our resident spider, Wilbur, haha), crickets and anything else that crawls in... I frequently find him with a leg or two hangin out of his mouth - he's never gotten sick though

Hello! I noticed that all of you seem to have a cat that kills and hunts things in your house. Mine does not seem to do this. Anytime I get a bug in the house I have to kill it. All my cat does is just play with it for a second then walks away. Is there something wrong with my cat? Do any of you know of any way to get her to hunt more stuff? I didn't see anything on the site about it and was just wondering if I was doing something wrong or maybe some of you have seen a cat like this.

hi jc and welcome

i had one cat till earlier this year and my kitty family has grown to five,my domestic meir caught bugs and played with them, then i found myself the happy owner of 4 ferals and they all catch bugs and eat them aarrrrgh!!,i would say maybe your cat was a vegetarian?? (well its a thought eh?)

ooohhh how i wish for the day................well i can hope.......

i try to catch the bugs before they all spot it,which is a miracle if i can,so i would say you are one lucky person, with a very wise cat!!!

Crickets, flies, moths, and roaches too. I think they believe bugs are there for entertainment and hunting. It's fun to find my youngest kitty crouched and stalking a poor bug creeping across the carpet.

My Bear loves to cach anything that will fly. I help him cach the bugs that fly higher than he can reach. When he does cach a bug or moth he will carry it in his mouth and show everyone in the room. lol

Harley does the same thing, he loves to hunt down lady bugs, ewwww....whats icky is that he will hunt down a bug and eat it (icky!) and then before I know it he's up on my lap giving me kisses. I love him and everything, but kisses right after he's eaten a bug....ewww....

Toby and Tedy hunt and eat bugs too.....all but the Asian Lady Bugs...they each ate one that I know of and will now bat at them but don`t eat them.
I`d wonder why, but I accidently bit into one myself last year. We`d been eating peanuts, and when I took a drink of my pop I found a piece of "peanut" floating in my mouth. One bite told me it was not a peanut! My Hubby thought I`d lost my mind....I was just sitting there quietly one second and spitting wildly all over the livingroom the next....they are bitter, bitter, BITTER!!!

Polly has stalked bugs, but I haven't seen her catch one yet.

Prego has caught and eaten, a few spiders, a large fly, a huge cicada and a small toad. Yuck! If it moves, Prego will eat it.
