Some of you may have read my thread about Casha in Crossing The Bridge. She's a 17 year old spayed female, history of some obesity, but was "in good health for her age" according to the vet last week. He gave her a shot to help her with some stiffness she's been having (I wasn't at this appointment, and my mother doesn't know what the shot was, exactly.....can anyone give me an idea??), plus a powder to put in her food (I assume glucosamide supplement).
Well, between friday and monday she didn't use the litter box, was weak, didn't eat, and didn't drink much. My mom had taken her to the vet, who agreed with my mom that it was probably kidney failure, since the bloodwork from last week had shown a SLIGHT deficiency in renal function. She was dehydrated, of course. Well, mom brought her home, intending to take her to be put down if her condition worsened. But I just called her and she said Casha is doing better. She's drinking more (still not interested in food....I suggested adding some pedialyte to her water) and is able to get up and walk on her own to a new resting spot. AND she's peeing again. Not in the litterbox, which it too far from her, I think (I told my mom to bring it closer), but gets up and walks to a nearby spot, does her business, and goes back to lay down. This is a HUGE improvement from the cat who couldn't stand on her own over the weekend.

Now, obviously her kidneys didn't failue completely and then bounce back to significant urine production......so we're wondering if the shot the doctor gave her could have made her ill enough for her symptoms? Perhaps the kidneys didn't shut down, but she just felt so sick that she didn't drink enough to produce enough urine to stimulater her to urinate?? Can anyone shed some light on what he might have gave her, and whether it could have side effects such as these???

We know it's still very possible that she is on her last leg, but we're crossing her fingers that she'll eat something today and continue to improve.

Every day that we have with our furbabys is precious as long as they aren't suffering.
