I was wondering if anyone has tried clicker training with their cats, I saw a book on amazon.com, and was just seeing if anyone has had any success with training cats this way. I was thinking of adding it to my Christmas list

Yes! My friend tried it a few months ago with her cat--he must've been the most stubborn, mischievous cat in the world!--and after a few weeks of training, got through to him. I would say it is definately worth a try. Most people tell me it works very well, too.

I started clicker training last week. I do 5 minute sessions individually with each of my 3 cats. You don't necessarily need the supplies to get started. I just ordered a clicker and the book (actually the cat starter kit) but it won't be here till later this week. I currently use a long wooden spoon as as pointer, a pen that clicks for the clicker and no salt tuna for the treat. It takes a lot of patience to shape the first behavior. Once they get they have to do something for the treat it becomes a lot easier but I'm still in the beginning stages. There is a yahoo users group for cat clicker training where I get a lot of good advice. I'm enjoying it so far but my responses are not yet consistent from the cats. My 2 year old cat seems to be the easiest to work with than my kittens.

I used a clicker to train Jameson and Bast, but fell off the wagon when school started. Fortunatley, something stuck, and all I need to do when I want my kittens is snap loudly if they're not visible, or stick out my finger for them to nudge if they are.

They, on the other hand, have trained me to do many-a-trick. Their favorite is the, "go outside on the big string" trick, and "make the noise that means food" trick.

My kitties & I have been enjoying clicker training thouroughly. You don't even need a book to get started...the link to the Yahoo group that SolarityBengals refered to is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Cat-Clicker/

I joined this group & got fantastic information from their archives...it's more than enough to get started clicking with your babies. And if you have any specific questions, you can always post them to the group; I've found them to be very kind & helpful.

I have been clicker-training my cats and dogs for about two years. I swear by it - the most wonderful way to train!! It's just brilliant.

I'm actually looking into becoming a professional trainer using the clicker - I just fell in love with it!!

The website that has wonderful information, gear and advice (and the stuff is REALLY cheap) is www.clickertraining.com. Awesome!
