I am mad about something that happened over the weekend. Last week my sister adopted a 6 month old kitten, knowing her daughter (2 years old) is allergic. She only adopted the cat because she saw a mouse. This past Friday her daughter had a asthma attack, and she is still in the hospital as of today. I went to the hospital on Saturday morning, towards the end of my visit, I asked her what she was going to do with the cat. She told me she was not sure. I told her I would bring it back to the shelter and explain what happened. While she agreed I heard her husband in the background saying I will take it to the forest preserve. After leaving I was talking to my husband (his brother is married to my sister, in other words we are sisters married to brothers) and I asked him what was his brother talking about, and he told me a couple of years ago that is what he did to get rid of his sisters unwanted cat. I was so mad!!! I am very happy now that I stepped up and took the cat back, otherwise my brother in law would have done the same thing. *fuming mad*. People like that make me sick!!! I hate being related!!

That afternoon (Saturday) I brought it back to the shelter. Sorry my message was not clear on the subject.

Wow! What a blow-up!! I have already said a prayer of thanks because you overheard his comment, and quickly rescued the cat yourself!
When I went on my honeymoon-camping trip of Tennessee, I was saddened by the fact that every campground we visited had dumped-off cats.
Sad, lonely, scared cats that sought my companionship as well as food. I am still haunted by a lovely calico with kittens that had been dumped off in Boone State Park; I was unable to feed her cat food as I had already used up the emergency cat rations in my luggage, but she got by on Spam & lactose-free milk. I told the park rangers who assured me that they would have the cat picked up by the Humane Society, but how I wish that I could have found a home for that cat myself. Thank you again for sparing your sister's cat that same fate! As for her daughter, {{{prayers & vibes}}} that not only will she make a complete recovery, but that she will find an allergist who can help her overcome her asthma, and maybe even make it possible to have a cat, bunny or horse someday. Also, is everyone in her environment very careful of things that make her allergies worse? such as scented soaps, laundry detergents, hair-care products, I have asthma, too, and I haven't needed an inhaler for months now, because if I am generally very careful about common irritants, my tolerance for asthma-causing situations is much, much higher!! I was even exposed to cigarette-smoke in South Carolina, and had little more than a bad coughing spell that went away as soon as I changed my clothes & showered. Asthma is so UNCOMFORTABLE and SCARY!! It's as if someone puts a pillow on your face & then sits on it - I feel for any child (and adult) that has to endure it

I knew what you meant Linda.
It was funny to hear, because, my husband and I joke about how we have the better sister and brother. LOL

Thanks so much catsknowme. *hugs* As far as taking care of her needs fully I would have to say no. They have known about her condition for some time now and the last thing they needed was a cat. Like I said the only reason she brought it home was because she had a mouse problem. The sad thing is on Friday, while she was coughing she said, mom will you get this bird out of my throat, and in the ambulance ride they were trying to insert the IV the paramedic couldn't get it right, after the 3rd try another paramedic tried and said she was sorry it was taking so many times, my neice (who is 2 turning 3 in Jan) responded its ok I just want to get better. Bless her heart. My sister doesn't burn scented candles, keeps her away from smoke, certain food, but what gets me is, my sister doesn't go to anyones house that has pets, and she also tells you that is why. I just don't see why she would bring home a cat. Oh well......

Thanks for all of your thoughts!

what kind of shelter was the kitty brought back to? i hope and pray it's not a "kill" shelter. i also have asthma and i can tell you my kitties (i have 5; all rescued cats) don't trigger it..other things do. but in order to keep the dander down i vacuum 2x a day and i have no problems. i can't stand it when people think animals are "garbage" to be dumped when it's no longer convenient to have a pet. i think some humans should experience what animals have...
