bonnie has been bleeding a little again, last time it happened it was crystals in her urine and she was given some form of tablet to dissolve them.

on the weekend i decided she had to go to a vet, i found a different one to the one iv'e been taking anassa to because even thought the vets knew what they were doing they were always very cold or clinical and i wanted a more friendly vet.

i chose one that sounded good and made the appointment.

when we first got there everything looked great, it was cozy, welcoming and friendly.

finally the vet came out and took us into her consultation room, she took the urine sample i collected the night before and got it tested, it came back positive for crystals as i knew it would. then she checked bonnie's tempeture which was 95 degrees or something, anyway, she says 'that is pretty high...i think, some people would disagree with me but yeah i think it's pretty high' then i asked her what medication bonnie would need and she seriously didn't have a clue, i told her that fish is one of the primary causes for crystals and she says 'oh, i didn't know that, are you sure?'

finally she prescribed antibiotics but even then she wasn't sure and wondered if she should change them at the last minute grrrr, i said it would be fine because her lack of knowlage was starting to scare me.

through the whole consultation she was nervous, unsure and doubted her own judgement which didn't give me a lot of confidence, i just can't believe she was a vet, it's scary that someone like her could be checking peoples sick pets especially since she really didn't have a clue what she was doing.

when we got bonnie back to the cabin i gave her half a tablet, while her mouth was open i noticed that the gum was all sunken and swollen around one of her front bottom teeth, it actually looked like it would fall out soon and it was painful, she also had a heap of plaque and inflamed gums at the back of her mouth, surely a vert should notice that in a general check up? my last vert always did and would get rid of the plaque.

now i have to taqke poor bonnie on another two 2 and a half drives which she hates to see another vet because the one i took her to was an idiot..grrrr

sorry, had to rant lol

What a shame. I understand why you feel so frustrated.
You have got to find a vet with some expertise.

All I can say is "Wow".
My mom has a vet that I despise. . . old and backwards, but he's not as bad as what you described!

I hope your kitty recovers. My "George" also had problems with UTI's, blockages, crystals. I had to give him meds to dissolve them (can't recall the name now), and he had to go in quite often to be cathed (cathedarized) and to get fluids. I tried changing his diet. I'm not sure if the fact that he ate a lot of tuna fish (his previous owner got him hooked), spent the first few years of his life eating out of a dumpster (was a feral), because he was overweight, or because I used clumping litter (I stopped after he died), that led to his problem, or perhaps it was just a genetic predispostion. I'll never know. I do miss him though.

I don't want to hijack your thread, that vet sounds like she bought her license maybe, but what does clumping litter do to a cats health??

Ummm, I was just sharing my experience of when George had problems with crystals in his urine - thinking it might help if I shared my thoughts on the subject. I don't know that the clumping litter had any relation to his problems, but it crossed my mind many times and I decided to stop buying it (since I have other cats). Sorry to confuse you or anyone else by going off the subject of the incompetent vet.

Maybe you should continue this vent and contact the state licensing board with your concerns. This should be done as protection for the other animals that are relying on this vet's expertise & care. I shudder to think of the needless suffering that she may cause....{{{Prayers & protection vibes}}} to any & all animals in her care....

Frankly, I doubt she got an accurate temp, as if it was really just 95, she should have addressed getting it up to normal.

For goodness sakes, this doesn't sound like any vet I've ever met.

thanks guys,

i was just totally in shock while we were there, i never knew there were vets like this, i nearly knew more than she did and that's scary.

i just can't believe she actually has any patients at all with her lack of knowlage.

does anyone have the number for the state licensing board and what would i say to them? just what iv'e told you guys?

thanks

Yikes.
That it terrible! She doesn't even sound like she should be a vet [/i]tech[/i]. If I were you, I'd report her to someone. I hope your cat gets better soon.
