UGH. So I know we are late on our rent (we sent it today. We informed him BEFORE the 1st that it would be today!) anyways. Yesterday I saw on my caller Id that our landlord had called at around 6pm, but he did not leave a message on our machine. I assume no message no big deal. And we didnt get done with work til late.

So this morning..at 7:37AM!!!!! our phone rings! I assume it was a family member ER so I bolted out of bed and and looked down..to see our landlords number
I didnt pick up and he didnt leave a message! I made steve get up and call him back. It was of course about the rent. Which steve reminded him that we said we would be late (we have never been late in the over a year we have been here) due to the current job situation. But that it was going to be mailed today. AS STATED. Than he said "Oh yeah"

I dont even call my family that early! Cept for my dad...(hes up at 5am and i know he is) I mean...HELLO? I am sorry I think that was incredibly RUDE to call at that hour and than not even leave a message. Steve did bust him, cause he said.."well i have been trying to get ahold of you" he said "Did you leave a message?" GRRRRRR he didnt know til today we had caller id. I am just fumeing.

I know the feeling... my landlord is a
too... I have been on to them about getting some things done around here and it has not happened yet. Well thrusday they said on 4 seperate convos they "would be here in an hour"... they never showed up and I called a million times because I had things to do. Well I ended up sittin here ALL day waiting for them. Then today I went to the laundromat to get my clothes, and she walks up and says "have you talked to my son yet?" I told her no and told her I waited all day for him thurs. She then says "well you HAVE to be home tomorrow because we HAVE to get this
done and we can't if you're never home!" I was like ::censor::censor::censor:: I have been waiting for YOU to come over and that means putting off things I had to do!!!!!!! Not to mention I have waited 2 1/2 months for them to do these things and shes gonna play it off like it's MY fault?!

They think just because we rent from them that they have all the control!

Yeap, us too! Since we moved in, we haven't had a REAL shower head. they said it would be fixed withen a day... 2 months later, we got fed up and tired of having a leaking, no pressure shower and fixed it ourself! And thats only the begining!

Can you turn you phone off at night before you go to bed, when you don`t want to be woke early?
We do that on the rare occassion that we are actually going to be able to sleep in. I used to freak out about it, thinking that about that time someone would have an emergency...but it has never happend....(at least not at that time)

Most people are polite enough not to call at such an hour (unless of course you are related to my BF - but i am not even going to go there)

Our landlord is the same, we got a note yesterday stating that they prefer blah blah phone companie in their rentals and seen as we had swapped from them that we would have to pay the reconnection fee for the line when we moved out. BUT when we moved in we have to pay to have the line connected - so they want us to pay them $200 plus the new people moving in pays the phone company $200? Umm yeah ok!

We also replaced the shower head ourselves along with a load of other things. But the thing that annoys me most about them is when they 'help' by taking in a parcel and rather than leaving a note on our door and keeping the parcel in the office like every other place I have lived in, they bring it up, let themselves in and place it on the table for us. Then she had the cheek to complain because while she was in here, she didn't close the door and she had to spend 2 hours chasing Magnum (who doesn't like strangers) up and down the hallways to catch him and put him back in! But she only complains because I tell her not to let herself in and I would rather pick up packages from the PO if they took up too much space in the rental office after my neighbour tells me how he helped catch Magnum! If I hadn't had seen my neighbour, I would have never known he was out! UGH

Mine has learnt just to put a note through my door or catch me on my way in or out! I think she prefers just not to deal with me, she will hang around at 4 and catch my BF instead LOL

Hey, maybe you can try this (it's what I'd do in your same situation): next time something needs fixed, call your landlady and say, "The faucet is dripping" (or whatever). "I'll be home at (these times) between now and (whatever day). If you can't get someone in to fix it by then, that's okay. We will be happy to fix it ourselves and deduct what it cost from next month's rent. We'll give you the original receipt, of course." Who knows? If time is truly the issue here, she might just be happy to have you do that.

Oh, and yes, calling before eight in the morning is rude. When Shawn's little sister Amanda lived with us her freshman and sophomore years, I was absolutely astounded at the number of her friends who apparently have never been trained on phone etiquette. I guarandamntee that when Shawn and I have children, they will not call anyone outside the hours of 8 AM to 10 PM, and they will learn to answer the phone correctly, identify themselves when they call, take messages, and use call waiting appropriately. It's a pet peeve of mine; can you tell?

My former landlord was one of the meanest men on earth! Last year I was supposed to live in my parents empty apartment until their neighbour was broken into in themiddle of the night. They freaked out and decided that I could no longer live there and they would have to find somewhere much more secure.
We found the perfect place (four min walk to my uni) in an apartment complex with 24 hour security, a bit pricey but my parents figured it was worth it. TWO DAYS before we were due to sign the contract he decides that he wants £100 (to work for 6 hours) a week more to pay for a cleaner for the flat. My mother is like what cleaner costs a £100 a week?!! The estate agent calls back saying ok he changed his mind no cleaner he wants £50 more per week or no deal. Being that my parents were leaving soon and we were desperate we had to accept.
I have moved out since and not got back my deposit yet because the cleaner, which he demanded in the contract, locked herself out (while I was on vacation) and had to hire a locksmith to let her back in. The locksmith made a tiny scratch on the door and they wanted to throw away the whole door and pay for it from my deposit!
They have not done this yet as I am fighting them.

GRRR! Sorry about this, it turned out so long! I guess I needed to vent.

I don't think calling at that time is rude - but then again I am always up before 7am. Animals to care for and feed, homework, housework - always busy.

many times i am up as well. sometimes i am not. I do most of my work at night. and the babies get tended to. but the person being up or not isnt the issue. its phone manners. most people (at least around here) will not call you before 8am

Just to let you all know there are nice landlords out there.
The couple that my sis rents her house from-you couldn't ask for nicer. They built their house next door to my sisters. They just put on a new roof and replaced 9 window (with Pella's!!) plus they apologized for not being able to replace rest of windows so they gave my sis $400 to help out with fuel oil costs!! She repainted the walls and the trim-they of course bought the paint. They buy birdseed for her birdfeeders. She has a little shed on the property and she and her landlord rebuilt parts of it and re-roofed and painted it. She has a dehumidifier running in the basement and I think they share the well so they pay her for the electricity it cost to run these items. She would like to buy this house but with housing costs in VA-she's still renting it.
When she moved in a couple of yrs ago Mom came to visit and they washed the windows and did something else-her landlords gave her and mon $50 gift cert for red lobster-when I visited later that yr-I was doing something in the yard and they gave us another $50 gift cert!!
So don't get down-there are good landlords out there.

I have alway's shut my phone off at night, I know it isn't a good thing to do, but my hunny works graveyard and if my phone rang in the middle of the night I'd have a heart attact
We used to have the house alarm also and I finally cancelled it, that thing for sure would scare me to death it's very loud, we had it downstairs then had one put in the bedroom upstairs also, and I told my hubby the thought of someone coming in the house is enough to kill me so why have the alarm I wouldn't be able to control myself to punch the right button
And the weird thing is I am not really afraid to stay by myself anyway
