This is kind of long but you'll need to read it to understand what happen tonight

the other day i bought one of thoses door blockers to block the draft from the the bottom part of the door when it gets cold outside.
Tonight when i got home from work i came in gave the cats there little snack they were fine seem to be happy It cold outside so i put that door blocker that looks like a moose with dark colors and with spots on it.
A few minutes later cricket came flying by me slid across the kitchen floor right in to the water bowl and food bowl and everything went every where yes i was mad at first i thought they were just playing ruff in the house and i wasn't in the mood for it,

a little while later oscar and bonkers were acting strange they wouldnt come in to the kitchen its like they were scared to death but i didnt know what of And poor cricket she came in to the living room walking real slow trying to climb up on the computer desk i still have no idea whats going on at that time. I'll i know is that i have three cats scared to death and i thought maybe its the dogs i dont know so anyway i was comming back towards the kitchen and looked down and saw that door moose blocker it looked like a huge snake Im thinking maybe its was the door blocker that scared them, so i took it up and put it away
Cricket is in bed with ron so i wont know how she is till in the morning Bonkers is laying in my lap and oscar is on his condo sleeping
you would of had to been here to understand what im talking about but beleave me when i say scared they were scared! who knows it may have not been the moose door blocker this really breaks my heart to know i bought something for the door and ended up scaring my cats to death I hope the'll be alright exspecialy cricket i think she was scared the most she may not want noughting to do with me anymore im very worried about her she wanted to go in the bedroom with ron thats why i put her up and let her calm down some

Awww, your poor kitties, it's so strange how even the smallest things can scare them.

I had a furbaby named oreo for 5 yrs who was absolutely scared to death of ceiling fans! When my ex and I moved from our apartment to our first house that had them, she hide for a week and we didnt know what it was. She would wait until at night to come out to eat or potty. One day sitting on the couch I didnt have them on and she come creeping out of the bedroom staring at the fan. That's when I figured out what it was. So I had to gradually break her in with keeping them on low while she was perched on my pregnant belly
Then slowly turning them up until she didnt notice them. It's funny how the smallest things we dont think of will scare the snot outta a cat

Tiger and Lily, are apparenlty fearless. Lily chases the vacuum, and Tiger will LET you vacuum him. But yet neither of them like it when I wear my glasses
goofy kitties

Oh my gosh! I can sort of see why they would be scared of it...it DOES look like a snake!
A friend gave me a big teddy bear for my grandaughter one day, and when i knew she was coming over I put it on the couch for her to 'find"...Toby and Tedy were scared to death of it too. I`ve never seen either of them look that FLUFFY before or since!!!

My goodness, those poor kitties! One thing I've noticed over the many years that we've been owned by cats is that they always notice immediately whenever anything new is brought into our home. I think its the different smell that alerts them that something has changed. So the cats always have to investigate the new item right away and put their scent on it. So...maybe the problem isn't the way it the door blocker looks, but the way it SMELLS that is scaring your cats Just an idea and I could be wrong.

you maybe right cause the other day when jake came home from the groomer they must of gave him a bath in something differen't or sprayed some new kind of dog cologne on jake because bonkers did not go near him for two days she would hiss at him and try to slap him so maybe the moose smelled bad to the cats But im afraid to pull it back out I dont want to put them through that agian just incase we have a replay of last night

Maybe you could try putting the door blocker in one of your dresser drawers along with your clothing for a week or two so it will absorb some of your scent. Then try putting it in front of the door again.

That moose is so cute! It's hard to say what cats are going to react negatively to. My husband picked up two virtually identical doormats two weeks ago - same brand, size, material, etc., except that one is brown, and the other is green. The brown one is at the front door, and Jamie loves it - every chance he gets, he lies on it, rubs himself on it, etc.. The green one is at the back door, and he refuses to even walk over it. When I take him for his walks, he either jumps over it, or demands that I pick him up and carry him over it. I tried putting the brown one at the back door, and the green one at the front - same reaction: He won't touch the green one. He also won't walk anywhere near red/purple grapes, but the green, seedless ones are okay (we have both out back). Huh?

very strange how cats act I guess they have a mind of there own
I get scared of things like being in a walk-in cooler with door close,i dont like elavators, and i cant stand a roach they scare me to death
So guess what im saying maybe the cats have some type of phobia- Fear of snakes or something that looks like a snake

Aww poor cats! That's a shame not to use it though - a nice touch of Canadiana in your home!

I agree with the idea of getting them used to it gradually, then they won't freak out. Try getting your smell on it first, then put it out somewhere that's not going to threaten them, like the top of a dresser or counter. Then take it away for a while. Then bring it back out again and just keep doing it till they don't get upset.
Whenever we get something new, we put it in the middle of the floor for the cats to inspect. That gives them some excitement and gets them familiarized with the new object.

Well that's a really cute door moose blocker. I actually could use something like that, but my cats would probably kill it.
