do cats get allergies?

I am wondering because Ziggy appears to have allergies or at least what I assume to be allergies... what happens is all the time he has running nose, he always has (this sounds a bit gross but its true) build up at his nose, I have to wipe it for him, this crusty gross black crap at his nostrels... and he sometimes makes whistling noises when he is breathing, mostly when he sleeps. he doesnt show signs of being uncomfortable, but I know cats are good at shielding things like this, his nose is also dry most of the time, the nose itself not his nostrels... I'm not sure if this is normal with cats, I know if a dog's nose is dry it is a bad sign, is this true with cats as well??

I just thought I might ask here before running to the vet... which I'll probably end up having to do anyway.

Thanks in advance for anyone who replies!

Oh yes...cats sure do have allergies! I have several of my indoor cats that suffer from allergies...I think one of my cats is allergic to SMOKE...I do not smoke, but if I burn incense or if a friend who smokes is at my house...his eyes and nose get full of black crusty stuff. I have 2 that have skin allergies from flea bite and I have another one that just sneezes and blows her nose.....not sure WHAT she is allergic too.

I have read that indoor cats do have allergic reactions to things in the house..like mold, human dandar and dust, etc.

I am trying to find out more about this myself and sure hope to find some answers on this board.

I would go to the vet it could be allergies or a serious illness
