Hi

I have 3 cats and one of them seems to always be getting sick (everywhere) and now I think i've figured out whats wrong. Everytime after he eats a tin of fancy feast cat food (which he shares with one other cat) he throws it up. Not all the time, but most of the time, usualy he has good weeks and bad weeks. This is...the bad week.

Anyone come across this problem?

I'd like to be able to share pictures with you all 3 of my babys, but i'm afraid that I probably won't be able to post over a 1000 messages here to get my custom avatar (unfortunately I have other ways to spend my time...that life thing...you know...kinda takes up too much time!) too bad for me I guess huh!

Fancy Feast isn't ideal cat food, but I'm sure others here will elaborate. I just wanted to say that you can post pictures w/o having to have 1000 posts.
You can post them in Fur Pictures.

I think it could be the ingredients. By products are beaks, feathers, hooves, intestines, etc. Your kitties would be better off with brands like Nutro, California Naturals or Authority (available at Petsmart).

You don't have to have 1000 posts to post pictures and we'd love to see your babies. You can post them in the Fur Pictures Only section. Just take a little time each day posting on the forums. You won't become a TCS addict, I promise.

First of all there may be an underlying health issue why your cats are vomiting. I wouldn't blame it on the food necessarily. You could be overfeeding, the cat could be gulping the food and swallowing lots of air, there could be hair obstructing the cat's system. Fancy Feast has its place in the cat owner's world as it is one of the foods a kitty reluctant to eat (after being sick) will devour. I use it all the time, and have never had any cat vomit it up.

If your cat throws up occassionally, although unpleasant it is nothing to panic over, hairballs and eating small bugs etc will make them feel nauseated. But if your cat keeps throwing up repeatedly you need to take the cat to the vet. You can also purchase cat grass which will help soothe the tummy for a cat with digestive upset.

Actually I think if Pat finds this "Fancy Feast" isn't necessarily the worst food. I have this problem with McKenzie - Nutromax canned food makes her vomit every time. This is not Nutro's problem, because I hear it is a good food and I would love it if she could stomach it. It is because there is something in the food that she is sensitive to for some reason. Fancy Feast is one of the foods that she will eat and she eats it with no problem.

I agree with Hissy - Discuss the problem with your vet to make certain it is just something in the food and not an underlying problem. If it's not another health issue, I'm certain you can find other foods that will do well with your kitty.
Good luck!

I feed my girls Authority and it is pretty reasonable cost wise if you have a petsmart near you. After talking with the vet I'd give it a try.

Kitty may have a sensativity to some ingredient in the food, like a food allergy. My Trent is sensative to chicken and corn (that's a trick finding foods without those two ingredients!). But he loves nightly or semi-nightly treats, which are made from chicken. We've found that he can handle 4 treats - no more or he gets sick.

We did discuss Trent's vomiting issues with the vet. He told us that if it's once a week it's nothing to worry about, since we know he has a propensity to get hairballs, his sensative tummy, and he gulps his food if he's able to (the food is set up on a phone book so it's in a position where he can't gulp). He's also the one who suggested that chicken could be one of the cuplrits as many cats are actually allergic to it; corn and chicken are the top 2 food allergies in cats.

My crew used to eat Fancy Feast & one of them would vomit every time she ate any of the flavors packed in aspic. When I stopped feeding the aspic flavors, she stopped vomiting.
