I have 11 indoor cats and 1 of my cats (Sadie) has sneezed most of her life. Until just a few months ago, Sadie had always stayed to herself..didn't like to be touched or picked up by me. Suddenly she started trusting humans and started letting me rub her and hold her....I was thrilled to get to attention from Sadie after 6 years of staying in hiding. I knew she would sneeze, but until I could hold her, I never noticed that she blows her nose pretty often and a lot of mucus comes out of her nostrils. I took her to my vet and he said she had allergies....could be anything in my house causing it. He gave her some antihistimines (sp?) for me to give her twice each day. She hated those things and after 4 days, she showed no improvement. I called the vet back and he said to stop giving her the capsules IF they were not helping. He told me to bring her in for a shot, which I have NOT done yet (vet is out of town for 2 weeks).

Has anyone had this problem and is there any hope that she can get over this? She eats, she loves to be rubbed and she acts normal EXCEPT for this sneezing every now and then and the blowing her nose....kinda bad for a cat when they can't use a kleenex.

Allergies sure seem to be a problem in cats...I have 2 others that get skin allergies and they have to have shots every 6 weeks. Sadie's allergy seems to be effecting her sinus.

The vet told me her heart and lungs were fine and he said she only had allergies.....so I am not worried about a fatal disease nor the fact that her sneezes will spread to my other cats....I just need HELP for Sadie.

Thank you for taking time to read this and for ANY suggestions you can give me for Sadie.

Has the vet suggested that the allergies (for all 3 of your affected cats) might be diet-related? I have heard that about 1/3 of all cat allergies are diet-related. Dr. Pitcairn lists the most common food allergens in cats to be: beef, wheat, milk, cheese, eggs, nuts, fruits, tomatoes, carrots, yeasts & various spices & additives. It can take up to 2 months to see results from a change in diet - ask your vet if he/she thinks this might help.

Other things that can trigger allergies in pets (and humans!) can be household cleaning chemicals, contaminants (like chlorine) in the drinking water), plastic food bowls, synthetic carpets & upholstery & flea bites. Unfortunately I don't know of any reliable tests for these things; maybe someone else will have.

This food DOES contain veggies and fruits, but it is very good food...I appreciate your suggestion and I will ask my vet when I take Sadie back for her shot.

Eagle Pack holistic food is pricey (for 11 cats), but I thought I was feeding them one of the best foods??

Thank you for this good advice
