I can't believe I'm so dumb. I just realized my geriatric kitty (around 16 years) has been eating kitten food. What kind of issues would you all think that would cause her. Jeez! I'll get her a senior food right away.

Kitten food is high in calories so it can cause weight problems in cats that aren't growing + not super active. Glad you caught it!

The only thing might be is that the food would be tooo rich for your baby and not contain enough fiber. However do not switch too quickly do it slowly like with other foods otherwise it could cause diarreah.

Oh, yeah, good idea. I took her to the vet yesterday because she seems to be eating and drinking more than usual. All her liver, kidney, and glucose values are normal. Her sodium is on the higher side of normal, and her white cells are a little low. Hopefully just a normal infection.

I just lost a kitten to FIP.

How long has your kitty been eating kitten food? Just a bag or so won't do anything serious, but long term it's not a good idea.

Well, I'll bet it's been a few months. About 3 - 4 probably. Both she and my tamed momma cat that had kittens were on the kitten food partly cause they were both pretty skinny. But I should've stopped the kitten food, and I forgot.

Kitten food is too high in nutrients for an older cat but I have been told by a vet that the extra protein and fat will not hurt unless kitty has geriatric issues...

What kitten food has she been eating...
