A couple days ago, my kitty was released from the hospital after having surgery (linear foreign body removed from small intensine). This is the first time he's every been sick and the first time I've ever cared for an animal after a surgery. (I got him as a neutered adult cat) I was just wondering what kind of behavior is to be expected after a surgery and how long of a recovery time is normal and when to be worried. My kitty has definitely improved over the last couple days, the first day he slept most of the time, sometimes waking up and seeking attention/petting and then falling back asleep. He has more energy now and is definitely affectionate, (its been a little over 2 days) but he still sleeps alot and has been sleeping under the bed, which is unusual for him since he usually prefers the bed and other out in the open areas. I'm also worried about his appetite and bowel movements. He started eating a bit last night, but has not had a bowel movement since he fell sick (a week ago today.) He urinates daily, although he doesnt seem to drink as frequently as he normally does. Is this normal after a surgery? I know hes recovering, but I don't know how much he should be eating, and if the lack of a bowel movement since he fell sick a week ago is something to be worried about. How long does it generally take for kitties to regain their appetites and normal patterns?

i wish i could help you - none of mine have had surgeries as adults. the kittens bounce back from their spays in a day. you might want to call your vet, just to check to see if his progress is good.
