is there a way to calculate an adoption fee? I think that as long as the individuals are willing to LOve them, and take very good care of them they can have em; for free. I just want good lives for all the kitties

Here is a good article against Free to a good home.

http://www.cathobbyist.com/articles/...yist/Free.html

I usually recommend at least $20 to discourage those who would harm the kittens. You also want to follow up to make sure they are spayed/neutered.

thanks for the article...very interesting..I now understand why its a good idea for the adoption fee when it comes to people you don't know...def will keep in mind...It makes me shutter to think of heartless people that would torture an animal for science experiments or for rituals..My main hope for all this is that Patty delivers her kittens and that they are healthy and that I can find good homes for them..Thanks again for the wonderful article and advice..Take Care

At my school we have an Animal Centre where we take in unwanted kittens/cats and sometimes dogs. We spay/neuter and vaccinate them then we adopt them out for a donation (the amount is generally $25) but only after an application has been filled out and the animal centre manager has approved the adoption so we know they are going to good homes. You might want to check your area for colleges that have animal care programs because they might have a similar system.
The application asks questions about where you live, whether the cat will be in or outdoors, what kind of food they will be fed etc.

You can see if she has tapeworms sometimes you can see them on her rear. Sometimes you can see little rice looking things where she has been sitting.

If she is due to have kittens this week, I would expect her nipples to be enlarged.

She's a pretty thing. Yes, I think she is likely to have the kittens in the cage if that is where she likes to go.

Is the puppy supposed to stay in the cage? What kind of puppy is it? You are going to have your hands full!

Hi Kathy..thats my name too
I think her due date is around Nov 20th.
She seems to be a little protective over her belly and gets annoyed when I stop petting to inspect it..lol I thought her nipples felt a little bigger and she def seems to be getting bigger in the belly region. Her activity level has decreased recently too and she seems to be napping more. The cage was supposed to be for the puppy...lol The puupy is a Pittbull-not my first choice..but my bf made the decision so I guess thats that..I'm more of a Lab person
The puppy will be around 7-8 weeks old when it comes home..and I plan to keep him in a separate room for a few days and def when we are not home..I just pray everything works out..Thanks again and Take Care

Hi I would wait til after the 20th November before taking her to a vet by then a vet should be able to tell how many days left, we did that with our cat nearly two weeks ago, and we had to take her back 2 days later for a c-section as when our vet talked to us afterwards he found that our cat had some problem that was going to make it impossible for her to have the kittens naturally, so we are now the proud owners of one gorgeous mummy cat and 4 baby boys all very healthy and safe.

A couple of signs to look for which will show that things are only days away are that she looses her plug, and also if you watch her belly (since she doesn't like you touching it) it will move constantly kind of like a worm is inside but its really just the kittens, it's the coolest thing to watch.

Good luck let us know how you get on

i think the vet should have checked her out to see if it were worms or pregnancy.

how dumb is that for a medical professional to leave someone hanging like that??

yeah, your cat may have worms so this will make them go away, or she may be pregnant which will temporarily change your household, but i'm too stupid to check for sure and let you know.

the people doc wouldnt say that to you, they'd run tests. and we all want the same respect for our fuzzy (and sometimes not so fuzzy) friends.

Hi Mischief & Quazar-thanks for your input..Mischief I'm so glad to hear ur Cat was able to deliver her litter and that they are all happy and healthy...I figure if the 20th passes and I see no signs of her giving birth I'll make a walk-in appt and take her in just to be sure evrything is ok.
Quazar-I agree with u about the vet...he was a smart allick too b/c when i called him afterward and asked if there was anyway to confirm if she was pregnant he had responded with "Yea when she has kittens" I just hope she delivers ok

oh by the way, we might bring the puppy here today since the people who have them called and said they r ready to go..eating on their own ect. Would it be best to keep him in the back room or in the cage Patty has taken as her own? He is almost 6 weeks old. Thanks

just got back from seeing the pup I think we are going to wait another 1-2 weeks before bringing him home just so that he can get all the nutrition he needs from his mom

Actually..just like kittens..if you can let him stay with his mom until he is 10-12 weeks..that would be a good thing.

great thanks..altho I think the people who have them wouldn't want to keep the puppies until they are that old..but I will def wait at least another week or two or until they start pushing us to take him home already

I'm sorry. My neighbors pit bull just ate his cat. I am not in favor of having them together at all. The puppies are cute. Is your dog going to be an inside dog or an outside dog?

If your cat has taken to the cage I wouldn't suggest giving it to the puppy anyway you can pick another one up? A child's play pen works well, until they can learn to jump out of it. Wishing you all the luck in the world with your soon to be larger family.

thanks for the advice mischief...the cage we have was given to my bf. It is pretty large. unfortunately getting another one would be very costly and right now we are on a strict budget..I think I will have the dog in the back room and maybe set up a baby fence..does that sound ok? Should I keep the door locked at first? Thanks again..Take Care

Great! I have used the baby fence idea with a dog before, and it worked. I had forgotten about that. Good idea.

I would keep them seperated as long as it takes for both to get use to the other one.Keep the pup in another room if possible with a baby gate or whatever.
Pits have such a HIGH prey drive, that I wouldn't let the pup around the kittens until they are atleast 6 weeks old and can run or scratch to defend themselves.
