Just came back from the vet, and got antibiotics for Otis' urinary tract infection.
The vet said to give him pepsid so he can handle the antibiotic.

The medicine is in pill form, and i'm going to crush it up and put it in his wet food. Is it OK to just crush up the pepsid with the medicine and put both in his food?

It should be fine. If the medications had to be given apart, the vet would have told you specifically. Realistically it is just the same to mix them in the same food as it would be to pop them down his throat one right after the other. Everything gets all mixed up in the stomach anyway.

Safe, I'm sure... but I take Pepcid myself, and my doctor told me to be sure I don't take it within two hours of any other medication, because it's so effective it can interfere with the absorption of other medicines. You might doublecheck with your vet tomorrow, just to be sure it's okay to do both at once.

Hope your baby feels better!

It is always best to check with your vet first. It may be that the antibiotic should not be crushed but given whole (i.e. think about the human meds that come with the directions to not chew but swallow whole, it can make a difference), I'd ask before deciding to crush it, and I'd def. ask if the pepcid should be given a certain amount of time before the antibiotic.

thanks all.

I called the vet and she seems to think that there's no problem a) crushing up both pills, and b) putting them both in the wet food at the same time.

Good, I'm glad you checked.
