I would have done a search for this, since I know it's been up before, but I can't so...

Lola has two tiny little bald patches on her head. Perfectly bald, too. I wormed her just last month (well, my vet did anyway) and she has seemed perfectly normal in terms of health. I noticed one tiny little patch about 3 or 4 days ago and figured that she might have just scratched it out or gotten in a scuffle with Leo, but another little one appeared.

Today, there was a nice sizeable hairball left for me when I woke up and then a little pile of vomit shortly thereafter (which was not liquidy and looked like it had hair and undigested food, but not a lot of fluid...scarfing down food is a common problem here). Other than that, absolutely nothing has been out of the ordinary. Stool is fine, eating, drinking and litter box activity have been at theit normal levels, she is affectionate and playful as always. She has been gradually claming down over the past several weeks, but she still is alert and interested in play often.

If anyone knows what this could be or how serious, I'd like some guidance. If need be, I can get her to th evet Wednesday or Thursday unless, of course, it seems to be an absolutely emergency to someone here.

thanks!

Has he been itching lately? Sometimes they can scratch a clump of hair out. Also if its dry and flaky it could be ringworm (a fungus cats and humans are susptible to). Someone else suggested in another thread that hair falling out might be related to the thyroid. How old is he? More likely a problem if older than young. My kitten has an ear infection we are treating right now ane she is very itchy around her ears and has scratched out a few clumps.

I had a long haired cat also that occasional would lose a huge chunk of fur but the skin would be normal, with no scratches or any clue at all. I would end up monitoring it and it always resulted in a new patch of fur very quickly. I never could figure out what caused this, other than he might have had a matt that he pulled out very cleanly. He's still in good health.

Sometimes it can be hard to tell.

It could be ringworm- you can do a Google image search and see pictures of ringworm on cats and compare it. If it is ringworm, it needs to be treated quickly.

Thanks for the tip, MA

Hmmm, it doesn't look irritated like that. Or at all. There's not red, no flaking, no inflammation...when you touch it, it feels like a warm, soft peach, very smooth and soft. The surrounding hair can't be picked out...but it looks like some sort of alien landed on her and just made a clean little crop circle on her head (the circle's not perfect, but the removal of hair is.) The other stop is not noticeable unless you're looking for it.

I give them grizzly salmon oil every day...

Any more ideas or should I just keep an eye on it?

Hmmmm, it's a thought...I don't normally catch them grooming each other, but they cuddle and they wrestle...could he have nipped it out? They like to play bite on each other, especially Leo.

It's probably nothing terribly serious but you should have it looked at. Call the vet and make an appointment, but you can safely schedule the appointment for your earliest convenience instead of necessarily taking the first available appointment.
