Dry Coat?

When I adopted Clover I noticed his coat seemed very dry and coarse. Most of the things I've always been taught were good for kitty coats I have lately learned are bad for them. Like tuna oil having chemicals in it, or the possibility of salmonella with raw egg. He is already getting vitamins. His coat is very clean, just exceptionally dry. Is there a safe treat I can give him that will help?

Sorry I haven't been around lately. I've had a nasty cold for several days now.

I'm glad you asked this question! Marlee's had also been fairly dry. It has definately improved from when I got her, but still is a littel dry. Let me know if you find something that works well for you!

I'm thinking of switching him to a premium kitten food. There are so many it is hard to know what to choose. Especially with so many conflicting opinions out there as to what is good and what is toxic. I would try going raw, but I just can't afford that on what I make.

I will try the fish oil though. I may also make some of the kitty treats I saw on another thread that are made with sardines. Only as an occasional tidbit.

The fatty omega 6 acid in kitten chow is like 1.4 % .... Nutro natual choice is 4% and max is 3.5% ... chn soup I think is 3.4% in kitten and 2.2 in adult( this can be found very reasonable in a big bag) Natural balence is 3-3.5% depending on formula

So is the fatty omegas good for the coat? Marlee is on Nutro Natural Choice kitten, almost done with her first bag. Should I be giving her some vitamins as well? Or with this food, should it continue to get better?

Thanks guys. I've been listening for a while on a number of threads about foods. I think "Nutro natural choice complete care indoor kitten dry" (wow, long name) is the food I will try him on. I hope petsmart carries it. Occasionally supplimenting with a little raw diet stuff when I can get safe ingredients and my budget will allow.

Give it time Marlee will continue to improve!!! When my mom took in Cookie (a true Feral) he coat was not great but with a steady diet of premium food, you should see her fur now - my god its the most luxurious, silky pelt.

A good brushing once a day also help improve the condition of the fur..

I think you'll like that food! Its what I use (well, the regular, not indoor specificly) and Marlee really likes it! I tried Eukanuba, which she liked too, but Nutro is cheaper, and it better liked by many people on here.

Marlee has been on Nutro for about a month, Eukanuba before that. I can tell its improving, hopefully it will continue! Would combing work as well, a comb is all I have. If need be, I can pick up a brush next time I'm at Petco.
