Hi everyone, wondering how other people deal with this situation.
My 2 girls are 11 years old. The vet told me to feed them 1 cup of food a day. I give them 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup at night, but both are still hungry!
Maggies May is now weighing in at 13.5 lbs that's 1.5 lbs more than she should be.
I guess my question is how do you not feed them when they are hungry? It's very hard to do when they sit by their dishes and cry!

I've got this struggle too. My two older boys are a little over 12 lbs. & my vet feels they are a little on the heavy side. So she says 1/2 cup a day. It took me a long time to come to the realization that even though they may not like it, it's for their health. I want them to be healthy & live good long lives. I know it's heart breaking, but they will adjust and they will learn what time of day food is coming.

I'm guessing you are feeding dry food. Dry food tends to be higher in calories so I would try giving them wet food in the morning and evening with a small amount of dry for free-feeding during the day.

You can also get senior and weight management brands of dry food.

They get 1/4 cup wet and 1/4 dry morn and night. They eat Hills Science Diet RD.

My cat is on the Hills WD. I was feeding a mix of 1/8 cup wet and 5/8 cups dry. Have found that my cat is more satisfied on dry alone. I don't feed canned anymore.

Did your vet's instructions include both wet and dry, or did they refer to just dry?
I would have posted this, too:

This is a great way to put it ... But I see you are on a RX diet ... ask your vet if there might be a more filling diet ....

I'd try feeding them more frequently. Instead of 1/2 cup twice a day, I'd try giving them a little bit at a time throughout the day, to make up the 1 cup.
