Hi there,
I read the sticky regarding when to call a vet but I'm still not sure.

My cat Joey is totally out of sorts this morning. He usually always comes up onto the bed when we wake up wanting a fuss made of him but was nowhere to be seen.

He was in our living room lying down. When I went to go near him he hissed and growled at me. Joey is never like this.

It's now a couple of hours on and he still won't let me touch him without aggressively hissing and growling and he won't touch his food (again, unheard of). He's a very active slim cat and he's just lying down not wanting to move.

Should I contact a vet now or see how he is later on today?

Any advice appreciated.

Regards,

Geoff.

Hi!
Thanks for the replies. I took him along to the vets.

He seems to be in agony around his rear end. He has a temperature of 107!! The vet thinks he may have either been hit by a car, bitten very hard by another cat or maybe even had a nasty fall. He could find no sign of broken bones but extreme pain at Joey's rear. His rear claws are very slightly split at the ends which made the vet think it may have been a car. It seems something has likely given him a hard thump and that the resultant bruising and tissue damage has caused a temperature. I have never heard Joey scream like he did when being examined, it was awful.

He gave him a strong painkiller and some antibiotics (by injection). I've got to give him a course of antibiotic tablets for a week. The vet thinks Joey should improve a lot by tonight and be eating again. If he's still the same tomorrow morning I have to take him back for blood tests and x-rays.

Regards,

Geoff.

Oh no, poor Joey! I don't have any advice but I hope he's okay.

My cat, Phoebe was hit by a car when she was younger and apart from bruising she was fine. I hope Joey has a similar outcome.

You will keep us updated?

Hi all.
A quick update:

I managed to get a purr out of him a couple of hours ago! He's since gobbled down loads of food and is moving around more. He even sat at the cat flap so now I know he's feeling better! Looks like the vet was right. Hopefully he'll be back to normal by tomorrow, if a little sore. I'm so relieved. You just don't know what could be wrong internally.

Glad to hear hes improving. You mentioned hes at the catflap? meaning catflap to go outside. I would not let him out for at least a week maybe even longer.

Another update:
Joey is almost back to his normal self today! I can't beleive the difference. This time yesterday, he couldn't really stand and just led there looking really distant. He's all bright eyed and active again now. I'll keep him indoors for a while just to make sure.

I think that was one of his nine lives used up! Thanks for all your support...you're a great crowd!
