Has anybody tried this product? http://www.petag.com/features_details.asp?ItemID=1664 I just saw an advertisement for it, and am wondering if I should recommend it to a friend whose 25-year-old cat is getting scrawnier by the day (no diabetes, hyperthyroid, renal problems - he's just plain old) and doesn't have the greatest appetite any more. It seems to be quite new on the market.

I think it would be a fine way to get extra calories into a reluctant eater. One of my cats sometimes doesn't want to eat (mouth problems - thank God I will finally be able to pay for her to have surgery once I finish my introductory period at work and my employee discount kicks in!), but she will always drink KMR. She doesn't seem to have any problems with the lactose but that is unusual for an adult cat. I think this product sounds like a great idea.

I hope so. I'm going to email the link, and tell T. that I've asked for "experience reports" here. Mittens has been her companion for over half her life, and has seen her through a divorce, a second marriage to a much younger man, late childbirth, a hysterectomy, and the death of a parent.
It never occurred to me to give a senior cat KMR. We had one Siamese who died at the ripe old age of 23, and he had no health problems whatsoever
(he got check-ups 4 times a year, and I swear that he "gave up" when his doggy partner of over 10 years died ).

I have not heard of it. But it sounds like it would be great for my Roo!

I haven't tried this but it's been mentioned on my crf support list favorably, and you know what, I think it would be a good thing for me to try with Patrick (we are currently back to needing assist-feeding...

I just ordered some Criticare in for my clinic (it is made by the same company). It is great for cats with feeding tubes! I think it is a great idea for older cats and any cat that needs a little extra nutrition.

This is too short a trial to mean much, but I went out and got a can tonight (my local Petsmart carries it I found out). One big complaint - it directs you to shake well. Trust me I did, but found a huge glop of thick paste at the bottom of the can, which did not mix when just using a spoon. I am sure this is part of the necessary nutrients of this drink, so I wasn't too pleased.

Patrick's response was so-so, I had to sprinkle kitty kaviar atop it to get him to start drinking it, and he drank about half of what I gave him.

It's good for 72 hours after opening (refrigerated) so I will try some more with him tomorrow.

And that's my report

ps he just got up and drank some more of his Catsure, and ate some crunchies. That is promising (he's been totally off his food for 2 frustrating days now).

Pat, try freezing the rest of the can in an ice cube tray. It will last longer in the freezer and you can defrost cubes as you need them. When you shake it- shake hard and for a long time.

I was thinking about that...I noticed it said it can be frozen, which is cool...at this price, I don't want to waste any of it! I honestly shook this thing like mad, obviously not enough though!

That's a great idea! I sent the link, but I'll pass that idea along, together with Pat's remarks about shaking/stirring. Does the stuff have a strong smell? Mittens has been pretty much deaf and blind for a few years, but T. now thinks he's losing his sense of smell, too. She's been warming up his food, or adding tuna water, but his appetite still isn't good. He doesn't react to catnip or valerian root any more, either.
