A tornado hit Southern Indiana (East side of Evansville and Newburgh, Indiana) in the middle of the night. So far there are 9 human deaths
. They also said that out at Ellis Park, there were several horses killed too.
This is soooo random! It's on CNN and everything:

Please pray for the families affected by this.

Now they're saying 11 confirmed dead.

I live on the west side of evansville, so we were not affected. We're about 10 minutes away from where it hit.

Right before i went to bed, just before 2 when it happened, I could hear the wind picking up...so I turned on the news and they said we were going to have a storm...never heard anything about a tornado though!!!

I know! My brother works for the Sherriff's department, and heard that a 2 year old was killed.

I also got a phone call saying that a young guy from my church was found in a ditch and is in the hospital. However, it is still early and you know how rumors are...

I'll keep those interested updated!

We live about 5 miles away from the trailer park in Evansville that was heavily damaged with loss of life. I woke up about 1:30 a.m. and heard the wind and rain and thunder. I turned on the TV to News 25 and my favorite person in the whole world during these kinds of events, Wayne Hart, was on the air live in the Weather Center. I watched as he tracked what looked like to him was a probable tornado signature on his wind-shear tracking system. He tracked it until it fizzled out about 1 1/2 hours later.

The three of us gathered in the bathroom and kept the TV turned up really high so we could hear. We never lost power. Wayne's maps are so detailed that we were confident the tornado wouldn't directly affect us, but better to be safe than to be sorry.

Link to live video feed from News 25.

It was certaily shocking to turn on the news this morning and see what happened not very far from where we live. We are very grateful and thankful this morning that we are all safe and sound.

I'm pretty sure that Patty, pkj5900, lives on the western side of town.
I am very concerned about Jan, Gemlady. She was probably affected somehow. I don't think she was in the direct line of the storm, but I'll feel better when she logs on and tells us that for a fact.

This is Grace watching the weather situation very closely. I took this photo AFTER the storm had passed by our area. The screen shows what Wayne Hart was looking at all evening - the wind-shear information. The blue represents the wind blowing one direction and the red represents the wind blowing in the opposite direction. You can't really see very well but in the middle there are some very dark red and dark blue areas side-by-side. That's where the tornado was.

Checking in from SW Indiana!

There was a tornado?
It passed to the south and southeast of me about 3 miles. I knew it stormed, and there was rain, and heard the wind and our electricity was out for a while - but knew nothing of what happened 3 miles to the southand east (Newburgh) until my sister called this morning. At 6:45am I was on my way to the Boonville Wal-Mart for our weekly groceries and no signs of any storm except damp spots. I had no idea we were under a state of emergency and should not be on the roads!

Anyway, glad to hear Lacey and Amie are okay. Patty should not have been affected. I seem to recall a member named straykats from Newburgh, but I have no idea what area they live in.

I'm glad you both are okay!!! We're still waiting on updated news about the young guy from our church.

19 confirmed dead now
They say that there still people to be found, too.

{{{Prayers & vibes}}} being sent to all those unfortunate victims, both human and animal. Even those not physically hurt are traumatized for sure.
On a lighter note, that picture of Grace watching the weather is CLASSIC!! That picture should be published in a calendar, or something - wouldn't it look adorable hanging in a vet office. I hope that you can print a copy for your weatherman & the TV station - I think that it would really give them an uplift during this awful time. Can you imagine the frustration & hopelessness that the weatherman felt, knowing that he could tell what was coming, yet knowing most of the soon-to-be victims were sleeping?!?!

And thank you all for reporting in - when I heard the news, I asked my hubby to let me take over the comp. so I could check on you all!
