Has anyone tried California Natural dry food?

Why am I unable to search the forums for old posts? I just switched my cats to California Natural dry food (because one of my cats has been showing signs of some type of an allergy). I'm not sure if it's food or environmental. She has licked/pulled out all the hair on her lower groin area, the inside of her hind legs and the bottom of her tail. She started this several months ago. Her right eye is also watery most of the time and has an intermittent brown goopy discharge. At first I thought maybe she was allergic to scented cat litter so I switched to an unscented variety. She still hasn't improved and I've been using the unscented litter for about 3 months now. I thought if I did a search for "California Natural" that maybe I could get some feedback from people who have tried it. My next step will be a hypoallergenic food (probably Natural Balance Venison and Pea). I thought I would try the California Natural first though, because it's something all four of my cats can eat. It's also much less expensive than the Venison and Pea food.

I believe it is one of the functions that are off while they upgrade the forums.
Hopefully members will pop in and share their experiences. It's a good food, I've recommended it often. The only negative I remember is one former member who felt it led to his cats being ill...why I don't know, as imo, it is a complete and balanced food. It may have been a question of richness?

In case you haven't read this in my previous posts, here is a link to an interesting article on food allergens for cats and dogs.

I personally have not fed either of those foods, but I use other formulas by both those companies (Innova EVO dry, and Natural Balance wet). I have only heard good things about both foods you mentioned, and Pat & Alix is an amazing resource on nutrition issues.

Best of Luck!

Back when I only had my adult cat and before I decided to boycott Natura (I don't like their company practices, although, their food is still very good), I fed Cal Natural and he loved it and did very well on it. He has a sensitive stomach, too, and the formula didn't upset him. I've heard the same about cats with allergies. The formula is very simple and doesn't allow for a lot of reactions, simply because of the very few ingredients.

I very much recommend this product, and agree it's quite ideal for cats with allergies! Sierra and Serenity recommend it, as well! They eat Innova wet, but get a couple of kibbles of California Natural occasionally as a healthy treat.

I've never heard of or tried the CA food, but we feed my dog back home the Natural Balance Vension, and she has done very well on it!

What practices do you object to? I feed a lot of Natura products but don't want to support a bad company...you can PM me if you don't want to post on the forum.

I like California Natural. I have only used their dry once or twice but I feed a lot of their wet.

Any cat food that is free of wheat, corn, and soy can be considered "hypoallergenic" - meaning a low probability of causing allergy, not that it is impossible to be allergic to it. Meat is an uncommon allergen for cats, though it is certainly possible to be allergic to it.
