Is there some way to tell a cat's age? I know with horses you can have a reasonable idea of their age by looking at their teeth. Is there any similar method for cats?

I'm just curious...
Thanks!

Yes looking at their teeth can be helpful in determining age.

I really don`t know. I can pretty close tell what age a kitten is within the first year or so by the way it looks and acts....and if it`s quite elderly I can tell by it`s eyes and the way it feels when I touch it....but anything between say a year or two, or more up until it`s several years old...I would`nt have a clue.
I`m sure a vet would be able to guess pretty close though....and Hissy might be along here pretty soon with some knowledge concerning this. I`ll be checking back to see if i can learn anything more about it too.

All my cats were strays and on their first vet visit, the vet looked at their teeth. He then told me their approximate age.

I don't know if vets are all that good at determining age. My cats have seen three different vets since I adopted them, and I've gotten three wildly varying estimates of their ages.

Thanks for your input everyone!

I still wonder if there's a proven method to ageing a cat...

There are quite a few cats that live around here and none of them are kittens or older generation.... out of curiosity I'd love to be able to age them...
